Cablecom Launch 10MB/50MB/100MB Fibre Optic Connections...

I know, but that's when you go in through the front page. If you're already an existing customer you have to log in, and the version of the Kombiangebot page you are presented with after that doesn't have Fiber Power on there (at least for me). To get round it I would have to start the order using the page you've linked to, then say I'm not an existing customer. And then presumably have to register the new order under someone else's name at my address (i.e. a new customer), and then cancel the old service. All I want to do is add a service to an existing package, under my name.

Basically the website reads as though the service is available at my address, but when I log on it's not available to me. Or perhaps not available to any existing customers. I've no idea, I'll just wait until they make the set up easier, it's not urgent enough for me to keep wasting time on it.

When I log in, it is an option for me. I think it is possible that it is not available in your area. Probably best to call customer service to double check.

I would also have assumed it was not available in my area, apart from when I check the address via the front page (before logging in) it says that it is.

My experience of their customer service via telephone has been shocking, so I'm not going to waste my time with that again. I was on the fence about switching anyway, it would only have been a "nice to have", so this confusion has basically made my mind up for me. I'll look at them again when the service is a bit older.

Good idea. My phone service is still screwed up after upgrading. Cablecom is still investigating why I cannot receive phone calls for the last 3 weeks. It's a fiasco.

Just put the order through for 100000/7000... soon I will be able to fap over pron, download music, movies and torrents, stream HD youtube, and upload photos all at the same time... muahahahaha!

Do I need it? Probably not. Sigh.

Let us know how it goes!

(The switchover that is, not your multitasking )

I was thinking that wikipedia knows better

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOCSIS#Speed_Tables

Wikipedia is correct, but how DOCSIS is implemented also has an impact (amount of spectrum available for channel use etc), hence cablecom limited DOCSIS 2.0 to max 25Mbps

Like this?

At that high speed, a gigabit router would be better, the newer simultaneous dualband wireless routers are better than a wired 100 Mb/s routers.

At work I have 1 Gb/s internet but tests hardly ever go beyond 75 Mb/s so I am not sure anything more than 50 Mb/s is useful at present.

Anyway, with a Intel 5300 ABGN dualband adapter on my laptop and dualband router, I can go beyond 100 Mb/s on wireless.

Well, fibre power is now up and running... just did a speed test and it clocked in at just under 50MB, so should rise in the next few days as it settles.

Just tested a Usenet download and it came down at 7.3MB per second. Bliss.

Very nice- what router are you using for that? I have visions of mine going up in smoke witht those kind of speeds!

Standard Cablecom-supplied modem, and a Linksys 10/100 router.

Cool - just a standard WRT54G?

Yup, pretty much.

I'm going to have to have another look at this service I think. Enjoy!

i'm so jealous. here it costs me 75CHF just for 10mbit with static IP

Who are you with now... is Cablecom not available at all in your area?

EDIT - Just got the following results at Namesco: http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/

Download Speed: 53840 kbps (6730 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 3676 kbps (459.5 KB/sec )

****ing crazy upload speeds.

No cablecom because I'm in Schaffhausen. BUT - I just checked again today and Sasag have re-vamped their plans! For 90CHF I can now get 25k/2.5k or 110CHF I can get 50k/5k so I might go and see if they'll upgrade me.

My upload speeds have been shocking for over a week... around 0.6MB! Going to call cablecom tommorrow and see what they say.
