Got the new Cisco mediabox and modem delivered, but while I can get nice 100Mbit internet, I cannot get the mediabox to deliver a picture or go past 'init' on the display. I only have HDMI out, so possibly it defaults to SCART until it is set up? I can get the 'set-up' mode by pressing UPC then OK, but can't work out what the options are, as again, no screen output!
Has anyone gone through this? I would call CC but I get home quite late. I also do not have a phone to plug into the fancy modem, and this is my other question - what models are supported?
I am not 100% my wall outlet has TV-cable signal- although the apartment is very new and was wired by Cablecom, so I don't see why it wouldn't be...I can tune a picture if I plug my TV into it, with the cable that came with the mediabox (looks like standard TV cable, not CT100, which is confusing). I have 3-hole sockets in the walls, but it doesn't match the configuration of the adapter that came with the box (spacing is wrong).
Any bog standard analog phone. It's an analog phone port.
Yes it does. All signals are on same coax cable. Only the wall socket splits the signals on the 3 connectors.
Then you have confirmed you have a TV signal
Why? CT100 is just a coax cable with a solid core. Not needed for the last metre to the TV set. Any decent coax will do.
The supplied TV antenna cable, for connecting to standard TV receivers, such as your TV or your cable company's settop box (which is nothing mire than a receiver anyway), is a standard cable.
that's odd
Suggestion: connect digital TV direct to TV socket on wall, and do a channel search. You should find around 300 digital channels, of which one (the Info channel) is unencrypted. Go to the Info channel, this will confirm digital TV reception and signal.
Thanks for your detailed dissecting reply, very helpful.
the Loewe TV I have just tunes in the first 40 channels...will look for an Info channel as soon as...well tomorrow. shattered. you know when you are tried when every 3rd word is a typo...
However, still not sure what to do about the Mediabox! Looks like I have some sort of signal, it is a cablecom residence after all, they have thoughtfully put these 3-hole sockets in every room, not entirely certain what is going on...
Does it display " InIt " (the casing of the letters is very important)? If so, you'll need to reinitialise the firmware, something I've had to do before with assistance from Cablecom:
1. Turn the box off using the power button at the back of the mediabox.
2. Holding down the REC, VOL+ and CH- buttons at the front of the box, turn on the box.
3. Wait till the message "Clear" is displayed then let go the 3 buttons
4. Wait till "Set" and then "Done" are displayed on the LCD panel of the mediabox.
5. Press the front POWER button to make it reboot.
6. The LCD display changes from "done" to "reset", then the message "LOAD" is displayed - the new software will load itself.
7. The LCD display changes from "Load" to "R Scanning", then "R Loading" and finally "R Saving".
8. The mediabox reboots (about 1 minute when the TV screen remains black and the messages "Reset and "Load ->->->" may be displayed).
9. After the waiting period, "Init" is displayed on the LCD panel and you can proceed with the standard setup of the box as when you first got it.
Oh, and the box does display to HDMI on boot by default, you don't need SCART.
Well, I can follow all the steps on the mediabox display, but my screen remains resolutely dark. I know it works as I plugged my Macbook via HDMI into it.
I tried calling the helpline, but my language skills are not up to it. I managed to get to the technical desk, which basically hung up on me after thanking me for my understanding (I think).
I also have the same situation, i.e. the adapter will not fit into to the wall socket. Is it really required?
I've just setup my new Cablecom box and got to the last step and it now says "The set-up is now being finalised, this can take up to 30 minutes. You can then enjoy Cablecom. Please wait".
I left the box switched on all night and still I have the same message.
Any ideas?
The display on the box now shows BBC One and then this changes from time to time to other channels. In addition to this there are even subtitles displayed on the TV screen however the "please wait" message is still shown and pressing Guide does not change the situation.
I have an engineer coming around to check signal levels as nothing seems to be working.
There is a search channels option (choose automatic) which should give you signal levels and the number of found stations. What do you get from this? I get 223 channels but my signal levels are so-so and no picture, so signal levels are the favorite thing now, which is what they are latching onto.
As mentioned earlier the box would not get past the "wait 30 minutes message".
Spoke to Cabelcom and they said hold down channel "-" button while switching off/on the box off and then go through the setup. If this does not fix the problem then I need to take the box to the nearest service centre. (to find this go to http://www.upc-cablecom.ch/en/b2c/su...vicepoints.htm )
Unfortunately the problem was not fixed by the channel "-" button reset, so it was off to my nearest service point. Within 5 minutes I was back outside the store with a new shrink wrapped media box.
While in the store I also asked about the multi-media adapter which would not fit the sockets in my house. The guy said if the media box works I would not require the media-adapter ... catch 22 ... the box was not working so how would I know?
Back at home I plugged the box in and everything went perfectly ... I was now able to open the TV guide and choose channels ... BUT ... the on-demand stuff would not work and when using the diagnostics (channel 999) it reported some errors which suggested that there was either a problem with the cabling or the multi-media adapter was not connected correctly.
So it was back to the service-point/store again to request a media-adapter. I showed the guy in the the store the sockets I had in my house and he in turn gave me a special cable which plugged directly into a different socket in my wall sockets.
Back at home used the new cable but again the on-demand was not available and the diagnostics did not pass all tests.
As a last resort I used the switch-off/on while holding down channel "-" to perform another reset ... success .. now everything works!
Had a similar experience. Engineer arrived to test signal strength, which was fine. Yet another media box arrived through the post, and this one went through the diagnostics a lot faster. It also reported signal strength as 100c/o.
However, after it finished, it complained about a lack of IP address. So off it was again to the agents on the phone, and they said, " press the channel up button". And sure enough, it was working. When I asked about the misleading error message, she said, " that's normal for a new box".
I haven't tried the on-demand services yet, will do that today. I suspect I will need that special adapter you have. What does it look like? Does it have a name or serial number? Any chance of a picture?
