Camera service in Basel?

Hi all,

I have a case of the dreaded dust bunnies on my Nikon dSLR camera and I'm not quite up to cleaning the sensor myself. Does anyone know of a decent camera service shop in Basel, and have some idea on how much I should be paying?

Cheers

I had the sensor of my Sigma cleaned at that camera shop at Bankverein and I remember it was not as extortionate as I feared. The sensor still has dirt on it, however. That place quoted a price much cheaper price than the camera shop at the Marktplatz end of Freiestrasse.

I am not in Basel, but do offer this service . How much do the other ask

for this?

The shop at Bankverein charged me 70 CHF as I recall.

Can you clean Foveon sensors in Sigma cameras? They are a pig to get clean. Stop down to f11 and there are all the spots you hoped were gone.

Don't see why not, have not had the pleasure yet. Had all other brands,

but none from Sigma... yet

I close the aperture all the way with a wide angle to test before and after

cleaning.

Can you recommend cleaning kits for sensors? I want to have a go at it myself as I will need to do this from time to time. I didn't pay a lot of money for the camera and want it to stay that way or it has to go.

Although I don't suggest this... as there are many factors to be aware of

when performing a sensor cleaning... If you want something done right,

go to the professionals. It costs, but for the sake of damaging your

dSLR body and having to send it in for repairs... consider going without

your camera for up to two-three weeks while the sensor or shutters

are being repaired!

I use Visible Dust cleaning system for both quick, on the road cleaning

as well as dSLR cleaning for customers. I do have access to the

products. If you wish to purchase through me, then per e-mail only,

not here in the forum. My contact information is available in my

profile .

I bought a Lenspen from 7dayshop in the UK for literally a couple of quid. I must admit I was nervous the first couple of times that I used it but Wow what a difference afterwards. They're good for about 50 uses after which you can buy another couple.

The only problem with 7dayshop is that they don't deliver to Switzerland so I had them send it to my sister's address.

If you aren't sure, then by all means send it to a prefessional

Thanks. I'll see if I can get one from somewhere. I'm prepared to risk ruining the camera as it didn't cost me much. It's a Sigma SD10. When the sensor is clean and in the right conditions it can take spectacular small photos suitable for webbing but if I ruin it then it does not matter.

If you haven't already, try using just a bulb blower - this will get rid of a lot of dust.

Do NOT use compressed air from a can!

I've had it professionally cleaned, had to take it back to be cleaned again properly, and still I see spots when I stop down to f11 so I don't think a blower is going to help in this instance.

Hi all - just resurrecting this old thread to find out whether anybody knows where I can find a sensor cleaning service for my husband's Sony A300 DSLR in the Schaffhausen/Zurich area.

We live in Schaffhausen, but I doubt there would be somewhere here that provides such a service! Obviously, Zurich is our next big bet. Or maybe even Winterthur.

Can anyone help? Thanks!

Kadie

Have you tried Sony themselves? I mention this because most digital camera manufacturers have a service department who could undertake this work.

.

..

...

Hey thanks Flashman. I got a quote from Sony's official service center in Spreitenbach (Sertronics AG). 150-200 CHF.

Wow. I was hoping to pay no more than 100 CHF, but this is Switzerland and it is an authorized service center.

Does anyone have any other ideas? Can someone recommend a big'ish camera shop in Zurich that I could ask for a potentially better price?

Cheers,

Mr Kadie

Try Foto Baeren in Zürich. they're generally fairer priced than some of the others. You could also try Digifuchs, but I don't have much experience with them. http://www.fotobaeren.ch/ http://www.digifuchs.ch/
