Camping near Locarno....

Hello,

My boyfriend and I just called up to book a B&B for the weekend of the Locarno film festival. They wanted to charge us 1000 Francs for the weekend for accomodation. Is is easy to camp in this area preferably hiring a campervan and parking it somewhere?

Any advice would be great.

Kind regards,

Charde

There are a couple of lovely sites up the Maggia Valley - about a 15-20 min drive from Locarno.

Check out the TCS website:

I'd book very early though, esspecially with a camper van - We were in the TCS Bella Riva one in Gordevio last year at the time of the film festival (tent camping) & it was rammed.

Don`t know about camping, but have a look here http://www.booking.com/city/ch/locar...FQsJ3wodZF7Paw

this link provides hotels in Locarno, and alot cheaper than 1000frcs

Yes that is why we are getting organised now. We don't have a car so ideally need to be closer to the film festival...

Can anyone suggest anywhere else?

Thanks again!!

There's a regular bus line that runs the length of the Maggia Valley (and certainly stops by the Gordevio site) into Locarno main station - 5 mins walk from the Piazza Grande. - even with a car, you'd be better off busing it as parking is a nightmare during the festival

Great thanks for the useful information.

Yeah the other B&B is normally really cheap... but on this night they are charging this price because of the festival! CRAZY.

There's a camping site in Locarno smack on the lakeside.

I am sure you will find something alot cheaper than 1000frcs

camping delta by the lake is very good, stayed there a few times, a bit on the pricey side for a camp site but certainly cheaper than the B&B you were quoted

There's plenty of camping sites around the lake... Maybe you could try to contact the Locarno tourist office to ask for a list of sites.

Just back from a weekend at the Delta camp site. We were two people and survived the storm on Friday night/Satur-day...... all day... mad, we really thought the tent would have flown, but luckily it didn't... others were not so lucky.

We paid Fr.353 for 2 people for 3 nights.... wow wow wow...

the invoice was divided into Fr57/prime location tenting (most expensive category) After that they wanted more money for each person staying... turned out to be over Fr100 for the 3 nights... wow, and I thought it cost 57/night for the space... well yes it did, but only if you weren't staying in it!!!

we paid a flat-rate of Fr.5/night for electricity and here's the mad thing, Fr50 Buchungsgebühr... eh what? Well, for what??

Anyway, there was no entertainment, nothing to speak of anyway.. a few slots for the kids - for money of course - no band, nothing else either...

Also, it is considered 5* well, I have to say the toilets didn't smell like toilets and seemingly that's what 5* is considered... constant hot water, working showers, not exactly clean all the time, some people are basically pigs when it comes to public amenities, but I expected a constant cleaning service, especially for that price.

Positives : Great location, great weather, if not a little adventurous, no driving in after 10pm which is good. Huge place, one can eat, there is a restaurant on site... lake was beautiful, we even got close to a mother duck and her 10 ducklings... very cute. great swimming. Friendly service...

All in all a great weekend, BUT expensive... Katie Melhua was also super, very good live singer... any suggestions for a camp site in Italy? somewhere not quite as expensive?
