Can anyone help me with student accomodation in Lausanne?

Starting as Erasmus student in January. Have applied for accommodation, but not heard anything. Can anybody help with recommendations or tips as what to do next please?

Here are some threads that may help (found using the search function, and whittled down a bit to help):

Pray and beg... it is a very difficult housing market. Most likely chance is via a departing student, so use all university contacts, boards, etc...

One of my best friend worked at the Erasmus office for Lausanne Uni for years- Of of her many jobs was to help students find accomodation for Erasmus students. You really need to get in touch with them again.

'Normally' they try to give accomodations in the university lodgings (Crissier, Bellerive or Falaises near CHUV) for the erasmus students, but sometimes there's nothing available...

Thank you so much Fingers crossed!

Never realised it would be this difficult

Ok, thanks for that, will give it another try. Here's hoping.

Do uni's here not have halls of residence?

I applied for student accommodation through the university and completed everything they asked of me, but unfortunately have not heard anything at all. My Erasmus advisor here is off ill and there seems little advise or support to know what to do next. Overloaded with assignment deadlines etc before I go, making things difficult and a bit stressful

Sorry to hear that. When our daughter went off for her Erasmus year to France- all the students were starting in September and everything was organised months in advance- although the accom offered was awful (Marseilles uni/Luminy campus and I just don't know how she and her group stuck it out. I only found out how dreadful it was when I visited at Easter... it was truly bad, the cockroaches were ginormous and security and safety appalling... but this is by the by). Must say I've never heard of Erasmus students starting after Christmas.

Now here is an idea- but it might not be your cup of tea. Would you be able to exchange some babysitting and help with kids and housework in exchange for a cheaper room in a family, via EF here? I used to host students on that basis where we lived in the UK, and it worked really well for all concerned, as we lived a few mins from a Uni campus.

In case that might interest someone here, perhaps could say if you are male or female- and perhaps which Uni you are at at the mo?

That's a great idea and certainly worth a try. Thank you

You're welcome. Sorry I can't be of more help, as I don't know the Lausanne housing market - aside from the fact it's tough. Hopefully a shortened list of threads and the advice from others here will yield some magical nugget that will help you find something quickly.

Oh wow! That's brilliant, thanks!

Good luck. You are most welcome.

This is fantastic! Thank you so much - here's hoping to happy lodgings!

When you arrive (and if you don't have any lodging yet) you'll find that the walls of most university buildings are covered with ads, and many concern other students looking for roommates. I think flat-sharing is your best option.

As soon as you have a login account, the university intranet will let you access the ads database, and you can find flat-sharing opportunities via this system as well.

I feel so reassured now, thank goodness! You've been so helpful, many thanks

I'm assuming you applied to FMEL student housing? They got back to me with an accommodation offer just 3-4 weeks before I was due to move from Australia to Lausanne last January. Responsiveness is not their strong point.

They just opened a new building this semester so there are likely to be more places than normal on offer for the next semester.
