Can anyone recommend English speaking fair priced electrician in Zurich area?

I need someone to fit a couple of replacement light fittings at our apartment in ruschlikon 8803, Zurich, English speaking and reasonable rates.. Any recommendations would be much appreciated as I don't want to pay the EKZ rates I did originally with the added complexity of the language barrier..(which last time cost me an extra 400chf to put right the original job!)...

Thanks a lot, Paul

ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha hahahahha

good luck

Sorry

Thanks, very helpful...

The title of your post made me laugh as well. My electrician will tell you his prices are fair. The most recent electrical work I needed to have done I got 3 quotes, and they were vastly different for the same work.

Electricians charge a fixed rate. Get a quote in advance. I have found the only way to save a bit is using someone locally, and then the travel time does not add a great deal to the bill.

Also, electricians can buy the lights for you and therefore if there are any problems with the lights themselves, this will not be any additional costs for you. Most electricians have catalogues from the light manufacturers.

You do not require an Electrical licence to just replace light fittings or a small extension to an existing light circuit, there are a few good handyman on the forum that can do this for you, Papa Goose is one I can recomend.

Time is money here even for a handyman!! So if you have the light fittings it will be a lot quicker and easier. If you are looking for lights a bit above Ikea/Bauhaus ect have a look at www.deltalight.com , they have a showroom in Zurich and prices are okay for here.

Thanks for your advice and taking the time to reply, much appreciated.

I'm an electrician working in The Zurich area mainly.. I'm sure I can help..!!

Thanks for coming back to me, I found someone else in the end already.

As stated above, doing it yourself is not difficult.

Just be aware that builders here appear not to be very consistent with wire colouring - I helped a friend in Basel fit some lights and found that the blue wire was the live one...Swiss quality I suppose...

Cheers,

Nick

Hey Guys,

I need to get ceiling lights fixed in my room in the apartment. I already have the lights but need help in installing. The job should not take more than 20mins. Is there anyone here you guys recommend (better if it's someone around Kreis 8)?

Cheers,

Aman

If anyone is still looking for an electrician (like I did last week in this forum to hang a heavy lamp in my dining area and fix another light) - I would recommend Peeter (I may have found him on a different thread). He was friendly and pleasant, did a great job and very quickly. He also charged decent prices, unlike some others I reached out to. He can be found on this Forum under Peeter, otherwise his number is 076 798 90 35. Hope this helps!

You mean it's not supposed to be ?

Hello, can you pls. send me a quote. I have to install 10 ceiling lights. I have all the lights already purchased. Thanks

Try https://www.englishforum.ch/members/74387-peeter.html , who in disregard to SwissBritt was not last active in 2014 but Yesterday.

Thank you EdwinNL

Hi Amogles ,

The builders / electricians are using with purpose different cables ( colours )

This is done with a reason ,it not a random thing .

The cable for the lamps can be really different colours ,this is done to make everything easier with connecting all the lamps / circuits on separate lamp switches in the junction boxes .

Have a good day .

Best regards

Peter

You should not be giving out private numbers openly

Yeah, but normally there are norms as to which colours you can use for which purpose. Just using whatever colour takes your fancy is not the way.

Did you find one?

When I moved I got charged 360 CHF for adding 6 light bulb connectors to the end of the cables on the ceiling.

It's almost as draconian as having to have 10 posts before you can use the marketplace.
