Can CDL-holder living in Ferney request Permit Ci?

My wife has currently a Carte de légitimation through me, but she got a job in France so has to apply for a French Carte de Séjour.

Since it is a short job (one year) and the place is just a few hours away, we plan to live days there and here, or weeks here and there.

Does she have to restitute her CDL? Or she can keep both?

I have searched through the forum and didn't find any similar posts.

Surely she has to apply for frontalier status and not Carte de Séjour. Which is going to be your main residence, the one ins Switzerland, or the one in France.

You can't be in both systems at the same time. You are either resident here, or there, not both. It is very strictly regulated, even more so lately as so many have been 'playing the system', jumping in and out.

No, the CDL is only valid for Switzerland.

Non-EU cannot simply move to France freely. A visa would be needed.

No, because she would no longer be a Swiss resident, but a French one. She probably couldn’t work in Switzerland if you move to France. She wouldn’t be eligible for a G permit since she wouldn’t have French permanent residency and I don’t think there’s any other way to do cross border.

Thanks, I thought the residence would consider neighboring France - as in some cases it is valid.

CDL maybe, but not for a Ci permit. That’s Swiss residency only.

This thread on another site seems to confirm what you’ve already heard. The Ci permit is only for dependents of CDL holders who reside in Switzerland. Post #17 in the thread below could be of interest, though:

It sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too, which doesn’t look possible.
