I am a Non EU who finished their masters in Switzerland in 2021. During my second year of studies, I was a working student on a 15h limit work load, after that my company got me a two years contract to finish the projects, so naturally I received a Permit L. Unfortunately I got laid off after one year due to the ongoing debt crisis and company would not be able to afford my salaries. My permit L is expiring on 18th of November 2022, and I was wondering if it is possible to apply for an extension of 6 months to look for a now job given minimum requirement are met (Enough money to sustain my self the next 6 months without social assistance) ?
I was once in that situation: counting the days until contract end and permit expiration date. Even talked to a lawyer. Lawyer explained the permit L conditions (job seeking one). In a quite cynical way, he explained that everyone that applies for a L permit gets one. Of course, some applications for G permit are denied, but the time they take to answer is sometimes as long as the duration of permit. The lawyer continued telling "stop worrying about permit and look for employment. L permit only gives you time, not a damned job."
So, take the time the cantonal authorities take to answer your L permit application for granted and focus your efforts on finding the job that includes residence permit.

So I am quite pessimistic this is the best time for me to find a job, and a 6 month extension will allow better chances at the beginning of 2023.
I know it is a question for the canton, I am just asking here in the hope someone went through the exact process and can provide tips that may help respond better to a negative feedback from the canton.

However, the exception on immigration law (6 month job seeking permit) is for “graduates”. I have no idea of the precise definition of “graduate”. Is it the period between graduation and 1st job? Or is it a fixed period of time after graduation?.

Exactly, I have already got my 6 months after Graduation last year, i don't think I am eligible for another one. though thanks for lawyer infos, will evaluate and contact them.
