Huge hole with some wires ending in plsric caps covered by a plastic thing that sticks out of the wall. We want to hang something and it is in the way. There's no reason I shouldn't block it off and plaster over is there?
You might need access to these at some time - electric joints can come loose and fail.
You can buy flat covers that press on via a central screw.
Without a photo, I can't say for sure that one of these would work.
Will post a photo when I've the computer on. The hole itself is about 10.5x10.5cm. I looked in a DIY but they didn't have, and was told they can't order in, flat covers that size.
I would not fill it with plaster. It is not fake, just not in use. Blank covers you can buy in other sizes from an electric supplier. You can affix it without screws using silicone or glue. It won't be flush with the wall but fairly close.

If you're planning to put something immovable against the wall that would hide the hole then I'd just remove the cover and store it somewhere and hide the hole with the furniture.
Yes, that is what is there already. It will hang above the skirting board and over half of the cover - which keeps it away from the wall on one side. To completely cover the cover, we would have to hang it off centre which would look ridiculous!

Yes, it's too high, it sticks out 7mm from the wall.
I want to know if there is any reason (legal, fire, electrical, insurance) I shouldn't block it off and plaster over it. The husband wants to use a tea towel to block it, I would use plexiglass.

Depending how yours is mounted it is either the 9909.10 or 9909.10.37
If you are renting keep the original one.

The 9909.03 is known to be thinner but not sure if it will fit. If it does it can be used as a base to plaster and paint it.
If it ends up behind something (=hidden), why not use electrical tape (Isolierband) on each wire. And maybe even cover the hole with it after? (Just to stop mice building a home in it )
They end in plastic caps already If not Wago clamp Model 221 or 222 would be better than some tape kludge.

If there are connections being made in the box it must be kept easily reachable under all circumstances, if these are only ends they can be properly secured and the box can be closed and put behind the plaster, do however take exact measurements of the location and put a clearly visible note of this next to/inside the power cabinet, if there ever is a problem with that box, or you leave the house and have to restore it (when rented) you can still find it. And place some paper (or other proper protection) over the wires, so the wet plastering does not make contact with the wires.
Husband says they are ends rather than connections, here's a closer picture.
I've never plastered anything before, so whilst I'm certain that I'll do a better job than husband and his tea towel I'm equally certain you'll still be able to see that something happened there. I've taken photos just to be sure.
I have actually already filled it in, as I thought it was better to do that then let my husband have a go. I just want to know if it's likely to catch fire and destroy my flat and give the insurance an excuse not to pay!
That is beyond any doubt a connection box, and thus must be easily reachable under all circumstances and should absolutely not be plastered over. You should change your plans instead of smearing this away.

Those are not ends but the star point of a distribution .
If I count right five sockets are connect to this point. You really want easy access to those wires.
