Can I sell my art on Ricardo.ch?

I am new to Ricardo. ch I just set up an account. I am an artist in Montreux, selling modern and pop art paintings, sometimes abstract, often bold vivid colours.

I do exhibitions locally and I do have an etsy account. Recently I heard of Ricardo for selling in Vaud and am wondering if my art will sell there. I tried anibis a while ago, and while I find anibis great for cameras, apartments etc I had no luck putting ads up for my paintings.

It is hard to sell art online and I understand that most people like to see the piece in person before buying. But I have had success with Etsy.

My main question about Ricardo.ch is how do people find your posts? Are these posts with my art for sale being seen by a lot of people or do I have to promote? If I don't promote is there a slim to none chance of selling?

It says I can link to facebook but I use facebook for friends and I dont want to make it too 'sales' like, for me facebook is for my social stuff.

Thanks for any tips and advice on art selling on Ricardo. Really appreciate it!!

Also I searched for 'painting' as if i were a buyer, and there were only 26 results (mostly art supplies!) and only 1 bid all the rest 0 bids.... am i missing something? thanks :-))

What is your average sales price?

300 to 700 SFR..

For large 60 x 90 box canvas acrylics and oils

I have no idea whether your Art would sell on Ricardo.

I guess you can test the water, depending on listing fees if it does not sell.

In your description you would let people know they can come to view in person.

I do buy and sell on both ebay and Ricardo. Mainly I am a buyer & it never ceases to amaze me what one can find there, some things I have been hunting in the shops for ages and there it is.

Good luck

Richardo is very much like a department store you search by department and you expect to find what you want where you expect it to be.

To sell your type of work online unless you have your own specialist site is quite difficult, although with Etsy you are on the right track.

Personally, I think you will have as much luck on Richardo as you did on Anibis.

Do not write facebook off, even though you like to keep your personal life separate to your professional one you do not have to mix them.

Do you have a facebook page (not a profile page)?

They are very simple to set up and are free, for next to no money you can build in a little shop and purchase 'likes' to get you going, you can also finely tune your marketing to target almost a single person, the ADs, I think are a little on the expensive side and I have had mixed results testing with different products.

The good thing about a facebook page is that it gives you an online presence that shows quite high on search results that can bring in traffic from practically anywhere, you can also link Richardo to it, not your profile page.

Try sites like weebly, you can set up a shop free there and, I recommend for a small fee attach your own domain name and take away their branding, I find they also show up high in search results because they have their own built in SEO (search engine optimisation) feature for every page, some free sites even offer SEO for every item, that's great.

If I was you I would keep testing all platforms, very few will do better for art than Etsy because it is an artists site, get a facebook page or two, play with a few free web building sites and then when you have the confidence build your own or get someone to build for you.

Unless you are very skilled at SEO, and it is a skill because the goal posts are constantly changing, finding your audience through all the clutter can be a gruelling task but it is not impossible, like everything in this life you get what you pay for, that is especially true when it comes to marketing, take your time and read a little about it, keep asking questions and don't be afraid to experiment, it gets easier over time.

Good luck !
