Can I sue??? [another laundry rant]

And at the end of your day you'll get your reputation lowered just because you do not agree with the opinion of the revered and holy dodgyken and his sidekick Today Only. You are groan trolls guys :/

I was in a modern block of 'social housing' more than 20 people had a washing machine so it's very normal even for relatively poor people.

Is it even legal to sue your own half mind?

In Geneva i have been visiting flats and most of them have the plumbing in the bathroom for the installation of a washing machine. Even in older flats.

Where i live now they had a weekly calender on the wall and you wrote down what four hour slot you would like.

That dates back to 2013. Nowadays i just go down, have a look and if the machine is available use it. No hissy fits or arguments at all.

But, it is polite not to leave your washing in the machine all day. You can't just put on a machine a then bugger off for the rest of the afternoon. I have been known to put someones washing back into their bag and vice versa.

It's great for us who don't have our own machine. We can sometimes have three days in a row to do our washing!! And just use it, freely, whenever we want to.

Try and be polite to the old man. He may cause problems for your future in the apartment building.

And, how petty is it to argue over washing clothes. Remember, a hundred years or so ago you may have been arguing over the best rock by the river to wash your smalls on!! Or even in some countries nowadays.

As to washing machines, KTipp says that you only need the landlord's permission if usage of the machine necessitates installation of water conduits/power lines/a change of the built-in pipes etc. , while the HEV says that the landlord can make his permission a condition of machines in flats irrespective of the necessity to change piping etc.

It is very important to be insured for water damage if you have a machine in your rented home.

Normal 3rd party household insurance will cover that, it's a totally normal risk.

I know but sometimes people don't take out household insurance and they could be in for a rude awakening if something happened.

Yes, unsanitary. You have to wash your clothes after others have washed their dog blanket, cat pillows, cat toys, construction worker clothes. There's most of the time left over hair & god knows what else in the washing machine & dryer. Totally DISGUSTING.

Exactly. But, one easy solution: install your own machine in your own apartment.

Our solution was to move into a place that had a washer & dryer. They do exist, very few but they do exist in CH.

I don't think it's so crazy. I've lived in a few flats around zurich, all you need is a bored self-prescribed busybody tenant to make everyone's life hell. One of my flats had clothes regularly go missing from the dryer. My current place is fine, no problems, we even have neighbours that don't mind switching slots whenever someone has an emergency need to do laundry.

In my building, the rule is very simple: you clean the washing machine, the dryer, and the laundry room after use. Once in a while, there will be someone not following the rule and a scathing note (never anonymous) would soon appear on the laundry door.

I guess you've never had to do your washing in a bucket, then?

Nah, my wife's mother used to do it in the lake.

(I do have a foto from Bissone, circa 1960, but will have to scan it)

Of course you do!

Oh yes I know. It's so demeaning having to share such facilities with those manual labourer types who have to debase themselves with activities like work, perish the thought, to feed themselves and their snotty nosed little brats. They have no will to better themselves and to reach positions of society where such humiliating occupations like work and such like are simply not required to enjoy a decent standard of living. To say nothing of the risk they pose to public health, with their unhygienic practices like shaking hands with each other without gloves, using paper napkins and eating those revolting Mc Donald's things. They even travel on public transport, you know, trains, buses and the like, and that without giving a thought as to who might have been previously occupying their seat. It could even have been, God forbid, a foreigner and they would not care less. As for the washing machine, I always get the maid to run an empty 90 degree centigrade wash with a couple of flutes of strong bleach, followed by another without bleach to rinse it all out. One never knows what the servants might have been putting in it.

Actually, it's in a couple of the catalogs of my wife's father's artwork, just have to scan it.

Happy reading Laundering pet bedding.....shared machine.... , where you also participated.

Seems like your tolerance level hasn't changed much in the past year.

My cats never had their own pillows. Should i be sued for cruelty to animals?

Ooh look, finally Friday has arrived.

We were warned for pet cruelty because our dog didn't have a cashmere blanket to lie on. The issue has been remedied.
