Can someone explain me how Krankenkasse Premium Reduction works?

Every year I receive a letter from SVA Zurich saying that “according to our assessment you are eligible for a premium reduction, please fill in this form”. Every year I fill this form because, why not. But I do not think I am in the salary bracket of people who receive this subsidy, even if I have two children and my wife is not working. Every year, nothing seems to happen in terms of payment, e.g., it seems to me that I’m paying the usual (not reduced) premium every month, nobody came back to me asking money back, but every year I receive a letter from the insurance with a very non-descriptive negative balance “credit to you” (but no payment form for this). It feels 100% useless, but then why do I keep receiving this letter? I would gladly stop submitting this form, I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything obvious. Can someone explain me what’s going on? Thanks!

in English… Compulsory health insurance: Who is entitled?

AFAIK, it is not the SVA who will decide but rather the taxation department and it is to them that one must apply. Since it varies from Canton to Canton you can ask Zürich what the the cut-off is for a reduction. It is surprisingly high in many places.

Do you have assets? Lots of assets?

No, not really.

I’ve read that before, but it’s not very helpful. It doesn’t explain why I am receiving a letter from the SVA urging me to submit the request.

The form from SVA Zürich seems to indicate that you should apply to the SVA…

Same in my canton (SG) btw…

TIS, so you are right, the procedure does vary: Premium subsidies
Not sure why SVA recommend filling out the form if they have no knowledge ( everyone “may” qualify) of ones financial situation. I applied here because I knew I was close to the cut-off.

I keep on receiving that SVA letter every year. And every year, my accountant ditches it, because I am above the minimum salary. Why do I keep on receiving it? god knows…

Ah, so you too? Weird!
