Canceling a Credit Card

Hi folks,

I would like to cancel my SBB credit card that is now liberty credit card, but I cannot find any information about the "Kündigung". No email... Nothing.

Could you help me?

Doesn't the card have some address printed on it, "return there if found for a reward"?

Mail it there with a letter that you're cancelling it, best by registered mail if there's money at stake

there's no debt.

I just don't want to renew it for a new year, so I have to cancel it and the website doesn't say a word about cancelling. And in the "service" link of the account there's no way to get a contact formulary... They do it complicated.

Wait till you have to cancel your apartment contract then Landlords, even very big ones, also don't usually run a website where you can just cancel online.

Cancelling is not complicated. Just send a letter with something along the lines: I hereby cancel / Hiermit kündige ich . .

Check also the terms (AGBs) if they say anything about cancellation, often there's a minimum notice to which you must adhere. If such a deadline is near, it'd make sense to send by registred mail so that you can prove that you gave the cancellation notice in time.

For information, normally canceling a card does not mean that your account is closed as some people have discovered later when charges were applied. Be clear on what you wish to cancel.

You want to cancel not just the credit card but the complete relation you have with them:

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren

Hiermit kündige ich meine Geschäftsbeziehung mit Ihnen und sämtliche damit verbundenen Verträge, eingeschlossen die Kreditkarte mit der Nummer nnnn.

This is probably where you want to send your cancellation notice, see here . I think it's a good idea to make sure by calling +41 58 717 21 11 before you send the notice.

Just as a general rule, the general terms and conditions (Allgemeine Vertragsbedingungen/AVB in German) will normally state where and how a cancelation request is to be submitted.
