Cancelling orange contract with no phone attached

Hi everyone,

In January I signed up with Orange but brought my own unlocked phone from abroad. They made me sign a year contract saying there was no option to not have a contract, even though the plan does not subsidize the cost of an actual phone from them.

I signed anyways as i knew i'd be needing the phone, but now 8 months later i'm able to get onto the plan provided by my work and would like to switch.

Has anyone been in this position before, and if so were you able to get out of the contract? I can't see there being anything to pay as there's no "phone value" i'm paying off, but i'd just like to know what i'm walking into before i get in another argument with a cell phone provider

Have you read the contract? Look for a cancellation clause. Probably an early cancellation penalty payment of some sort, even if you weren't paying for a phone.

Ask your company to take over the Orange contract with the number. A simple form and I think no charge to change the name. If they moan you could pay your company the monthly fee.

i can't. Unfortunately my company has their own contract with Swisscom, and they're the only provider i can use. Thanks though

Why didn't you order the contract online? Their website is fully functional in English (if language was the issue) and it worked quite well in my experience (having started and renewed my contract several times, including once without any minimum duration).

You could have signed a contract with no minimum duration, but in that case you would be paying the full price of the contract (as if you had got a subsidized phone).

What you did is that you signed to stay for one year, and in exchange you got a monthly discount in your bill.

Now if you want to cancel the contract there will be some penalty for this discount, but I'm afraid it will be higher that the money you have saved during these 8 months.
