Canton Schwyz: looking

I have not been able to find much info searching the forums pertaining to rent in the area of Schwyz canton surrounding lake Zurich.

Homegate's listings for Freienbach and the surrounding places of pfaffikon are I would say a lil bit on the high side.

thanks

R.

Rents, especially for larger/'luxus' properties, do tend to be high in the March/Höfe area. Freienbach is known as the 'diamond coast'... Wollerau/Wilen/Bäch/Hurden/Lachen/Altendorf - anywhere along the lake - will be high.

If you are set on those towns, do keep looking, though. You pay a premium for a lake view, but if that is not a requirement you'll find some more affordable housing options. Or, look for older flats or houses - these are often not so expensive, but still quite nice.

If you look at properties in towns above the lake you will find rents a little lower. Try Schindellegi or Feusisberg - still beautiful lake views, but not quite as pricey. Or Tuggen, Galgenen, Wangen - any of the towns in March/Höfe are nice. And quiet... (One of the things I like about the area... )

Or, how about Einsiedeln/Gross? Beautiful area, especially along the Sihlsee - just over the hill, about 15 minutes from Wollerau. Also Trachslau.

What are you looking for? A flat, house. etc? Are you commuting into Zürich, or will you be working in SZ?

One thing to bear in mind that taxes in SZ are much lower than in ZH, so even with higher rents you'll probably find yourself coming out ahead living in KT SZ. Take a look at the tax comparision calculator on the homegate site to get an idea of the total picture.

Hi Melon collie, great help. Up to now I am relying only on homegate and google earth to approximate distances from my point of work to potential communes.

I haven't thought of moving inland, but that is the direction of my next round of research! I am, will be working in Pfafikkon. Am looking actually for a apartment as landed stuff is slightly beyond the reach of a 30yr old with 2 kids.

I also did the tax comparison and the difference between staying in Wangen and Freienbach for example results in roughly 50% difference, combined with the extra cost of commuting, hmmmmm it would really have to be a good deal.

once you get out of the Big City, the rental market I'd say is slower down my way. Wonderful tax means big demand from the City workers....Pfäffikon will have more than Freienbach because it's uglier.

If you're in that area and in SZ, it is not far between the towns

Similar question:

What are Lachen or Freienbach like?

I lived in Pfaffikon for 18 months for tax reasons.I would not go back though. It is a really souless place with no "center" or focus. There is no atmosphere and the feeling is one of just sleeping there and not living as in enjoying life. Also remember the motorway gets closer to the lake and everything is squashed in between. We were close to the motorway and the noise was horrendous.Never again. Also the traffic on the Seestrasse is a real pain in morning and evening rush hour.I cannot think of one single plus point for the place.

My(Swiss- so it must be right) girlfriend calls the area Mawdor. The atmosphere of SZ in general is weird - religious icons mixed with Cabaret clubs

Saving tax is just not sufficient for me anymore.
