Car Insurance Recommendations

Hello all,

My family, myself, and a Land Rover Defender will be making a one-way trip to the Vaud area shortly. After doing doing some "searches" and research on comparis.ch, I am wondering if you all would mind some advice/ suggestions.

Some countries insurance offerings have companies that specialize in car/ driving enthusiasts, basically insurance aimed at people who don't just want cheapest price, but best insurance to maintain value and integrity of vehicle.

Are there any recommendations for insurance that is considered for something similar to this?

How does insurance maintain the value and integrity of a vehicle ?

You're talking about a Land Rover...Defender

Try Vaudoise Insurance

In Switzerland the levels you can have is basically the following:

- Just the mandatory liability insurance.

- Theft, vandalism, and environment or animal damages. (Teilkasko/Casco partielle)

- Full damage waiver. (Vollkasko/ Casco collision)

On top of that you can also add passenger and car content insurance, no damage bonus protection, gross negligence waiver, road assistance, and legal protection.

Some companies have all documentation in English, some other only in French/German/Italian.

A distinguishing factor is the payout table in case of a total loss (applies to to the casco options). Some offers/companies will pay 100% of new value up to the 5 year. Some cheaper offers only in the first year.

Today Only, very true...... A Defender, but still trying to keep her as nice as possible, if something should happen. Thank you for the recommendation, Vaudoise .

aSITU, Thank you for the explanation and recommendations. I will look into the different levels of coverage.

I currently live in Australia, and some insurances are more comprehensive than others, covering the vehicle for any use as long as registered driver is driving, versus basic services. It helps to hear from the locals where I should start my search.

Thank you,

Do I understand correctly that you are driving here from Australia?

I know it sounds unusual but it's not unheard of but just wondering if that is the case, you'd be better off getting Australian insurance from Australia for the trip then re-registering the car here in Switzerland and then get insurance.

Sorry, if I misunderstand (I'm only one coffee down so far this morning).

I have been with AXA for 25 years.

I have had several claims over that time and everything was correctly managed. Not the cheapest but I rate them as one of the best.

Land Rover Defender "any use" could be a very broad definition

I point you to a more specialized forum: https://forum.lros.ch/

They will know which insurance offers Vollkasko/Casco collision for any use.

Here, it is the vehicle that is insured, regardless if the driver is registered or not.

That's only true for the mandatory liability insurance. But the liability insurance will not cover damages caused by the driver to the own car. That what casco insurance is for.

But casco insurance can exclude certain usage and drivers. For example their might be no casco coverage if you rent out the car.

Only have had Generali for about a decade (2 cars), zero complaints and have come through brilliantly on the 2 or 3 occasions they've been called on
