I am thinking about giving my car back after the leasing period is finished and using, when needed, rent options. for shorter trips in Switzerland I know for mobility, but when you do longer trips in a year (like 4-5 times a year for 2 weeks with 2500 km) would th eoption of rent-a-car still be a good option?
I would like to hear about similar experince?
I suggest you look at a few rental car web sites and ask for quotes for journeys you have done in the past. Then compare that to Mobility fees and charges.
With most typical rental companies (Sixt, Hertz, etc) you will most probably get unlimited Km, so it’s only a matter of days charged and the class of car you need. That should be a straightforward calculation versus your current costs.
This may help:
In Switzerland, Mobility charges for vehicle use based on a combination of time and distance. There are two main plans: Mobility EASY and Mobility PLUS.
- Mobility EASY: No yearly fees, charges at least 3 CHF per hour and 0.65 CHF per kilometer, plus a trip fee of 2.50 CHF12.
- Mobility PLUS: Costs 129 CHF annually, with lower rates of at least 2 CHF per hour and 0.60 CHF per kilometer1.
Fuel costs are included, as each car is equipped with a fuel payment card1. Additional charges may apply for cancellations or if the vehicle is not returned to the correct location
If you haven’t already done so have a look at link “1” above. It takes you to a site called the poor swiss which is quite informative on this and other subjects.
Mobility partners with Hertz for long-term or longer-distance rentals. The actual details are available behind the account login page, maybe you can check that.
