Car Suggestions for Family of 6

you also have Kia, Hyundai and toyota who all did mini bus style vans quite cheap, but also quite basic. Merc also do a 'basic' workman type viano that is pretty basic and cheapish.

you'll have to go to the dealer to get the brochure as they seem to be special order only, didn't find any dealers with any actually in stock.

Yes study the lease / buy option carefully, it was quite a bit cheaper for us to buy the merc then to lease it

which as per usual for EF car ad's is about 5k overpriced

Are you considering getting a minivan or an SUV, or don’t have a preference? Also, for what purposes do you think you’ll be using the car most of the time? For example, city cruising or longer-distance trips with kids? These are some of the questions that may help you narrow down your options.

My friends and I have been using Toyota Highlander for ski trips. While it is a mid-sized vehicle, we found it has enough room to haul 6 passengers and all of our cargo, e.g. ski or backpacking gear. It is a joy to drive and has decent gas mileage (~19 City / 25 Hwy).

Anyway, that’s just a suggestion and I hope you’ll be able to find a car that fits both your budget and family needs. Good luck with your move to Switzerland - I’m guessing that’s an exciting time for you and your little ones!

Suggestion: Chrysler Voyager

Wow! Great feedback. This forum is hugely helpful. We expect to take lots of trips during our 3 year assignment so we need a car that is roomy enough with storage for long car rides. AND we need a car that is easy for me to navigate everyday life to/from schools, shopping and local errands. I'm a bit nervous when you mention parking is geared more toward compact cars. You have given me a great start on researching options before we move this summer.

Thank you!

There's this listing, which offers a lease takeover option. Not exactly near Lausanne, but may be worth a look at the make/model.

We moved to Lugano with six kids around the same ages. The two cars that we used for our travels throughout Europe - we took them to Spain, France, Germany, Denmark, Austria, Italy and throughout Switzerland - were the Volvo XC90 (manual AWD) and the Peugeot 807 (we actually fit 4 adults and 4 kids in this one). Both were roomy enough for us, yet small enough to drive in the narrower roads. I would highly recommend either car.

Hi! I just found your thread, and it looks like you went through the same conundrum that we are currently going through (we also have 4 children, ages 2, 4, 4, and 7). So, I am wondering what car you ended up getting, and if you are happy with it. Did you buy or lease? Any helpful insights you have would be much appreciated!

Thank you!
