I am planning to send items packed in carton boxes to my native country India these are personal non-commercial and non-electronic items. I enquired in fedex, DHL and Die Post cargos.
1. Are these the best ways?
2. Are there suggestions for cheaper options because I heard if there is a water way cargo then its cheaper but did not find any.
3. Any other suggestions in this regard will be helpful as I am doing this for first time.
Do a search for Cargo Brokers at Zurich airport. There should be a number of these. But you will need to know the dimensions and weight.
These guys ‘consolidate’ shipments by finding multiple shipments going to the same destination. In Airfreight costs are based on a per kilo basis with larger shipments moving at a much lower rate per kg than smaller shipments.
FedEx and similar use a different pricing model for their ‘courier’ products.
Your shipment appears to be low value and could be difficult to consolidate but someone may be interested.
For that weight, just as bowlie suggests, the cheapest possible option is to consolidate it. Google for "Schweiz cargo ausland"...you'll find plenty of companies that do it (e.g. www.emons.ch , https://cargo24.ch , www.cargointernational.de , https://intrapass.ch ). I haven't used any of them, but perhaps another TBer has ?
That last one link (Intrapass) has a door-to-door service called "Excess Bagagge", that charges Fr. 400 for a 20kg package (I guess it's a reasonably sized package, not 20kg of feathers).
They also have a 'Dimensional Weight Calculator' (Dimensions and weight necessary) on their website. In airfreight the package size is often more important than the weight. Nobody could make money carrying boxes of feathers at a rate per kilo.
Thanks for all the replies. I checked most of them dont have standard prices for shipment to India. Hence i have asked for quotation. Intrapass said they would charge around 600 chf for delivering in airport for 60KGS. Would you guys think this is would be average cost or can we find some others with cheaper prices.
Yes I had checked with Die post and felt its good option. The flight which i have booked also has similar price and its per extra baggage. When i called airline they said we consider extra baggage and not boxes. I dont have so many baggage/suitcases. I would need one or 2 boxes to be packed the airline customer care person said hopefully we will accept if its in the size. So can some one suggest me what is the best way of packing items in a box and putting it in flight as checked in because i have never done this so
