Over the Easter weekend, I roasted a suckling pig. The bones (2kg or so) ended up in the compost box, including a skull (around 500g I would guess).
Last night, I forgot to lock the compost bin, and this morning found it open with all the bones (and skull) gone.
This is in a garden where our dogs cannot enter, neither can other dogs. The skull I somehow think is too big for a cat to drag away, so a bit puzzled.
If London, I would have thought a fox... any ideas what it could be here? (Lenzburg)
... and there I was thinking, from the thread title, that this would turn into an interesting discussion about styles of (human!) dietary measures and nutrition.
I have lived in Aargau near the Zurich Cantonal border for several years now on a farm. We have many electric fences, dog & small animal and the larger cow/alpaca kindof voltage electric fences. A clever fox will and can somehow get past them, they will find it. Hedgehogs? We have those too, but I don't think that is the responsible animal from the details of your story.
Ah, okay. Well, I have a hedgehog or two on my property and they just seem to mostly eat grass and whatever else they eat without me seeing them. Thanks for the heads up, I am an oldie on the forum, but I don't read it enough to keep tabs on all the conversations.
