Carrying TV with AirIndia

Hi Friends,

Has any body taken TV with Air India.

I want to take a TV of size 40 Inch however the dimension of the box is more than specified in AI website which is 62 Inch in total of L+W+H.

Does any body have personal experience of passing through such a situation.

How much Air India charged for such a case ??

Also if some one has sent TV using post, how does custom thing work.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Regards,

ROcks

Crazy idea, I know ... but how about you call Air India and ask them??

The money you have to spent for such a shipment could exeed the value of the TV.

Why don ́t you buy the TV in India ?

Does the TV have the connectors for India ?

The question has been asked (and answered) before...

Apparently, there is some sort of ROI in doing this, though it usually escapes us people from Europe and US...

You would need to put it into a wooden crate to avoid the glass being broken during handling.

You weren't seriously thinking of taking it with you to the airport were you? You weren't were you??

When I was living in Singapore, I saw many folks returning to India with LCD TVs. The first time I saw this, I thought they were nuts. But, it is apparently quite common as there seems to be a high tax on large electronics like TVs in India.

If the dimension fits and the weight is still within the allowance, you can ask for one of those FRAGILE stickers when you check in.

I however suspect that you will get some stares.

Check it in, preferably in the original box - they load / unload them separately

LCD tvs upto 32 inches do not attract 'customs duty' in India. Beyond that they have fixed slabs for each size. There is also a proportionate 'facilitation charge' which the guy who picks it up for you from the belt will inform you. Don't haggle, it is all quite well organised.

Hi Rocks..yes you can take tv to india.i recently took one (40")without any problem. But you should take care about certain things.i did'nt take it out from its origilnal box.All i did,i took the bubble wrap and put on the both sides of tv just to be sure about its safety otherwise they handle it with great care. And you will not get it through normal belt, things like this come through another belt which is for bigger luggage.ours was totally fine.Don't worry about its dimensions. our tv was also over the limit with packing and all but they did'nt even check i guess upto 42" is fine.one more thing carry the original bill with you in case custom officers ask you. But they did'ask us anything (our tv was even 3d smart tv) .so don't worry.

And people there is nothing to stare about. They are just double in price in india .our tv costs us around 440€ and in india it would have cost around 800 € or may be more.so it's worth a hassle actually there is no hassle...here you hand over to the airlines and there you pick it...

Anyways good luck...

Just for info AirIndia does not operate flight from Zurich they are in code share with SWISS.

Dear Friends,

Thanks for the response. Actually I have a TV which I have been using here in Switzerland since last 8 months.

Thanks Himalaya for sharing your experience. I was little scared about the dimension but now I am relaxed with the fact that airlines do not create much problem with the size.

Thanks All.
