Haha, wow, aren't I coming off nicely in this thread?

Just thought it strange that it wasn't in the list of communes in Jr's link. Thanks for not explicitly poking fun at me.

You can also buy the Tageskarte ( aka carte journalière commune ) from other communes nearby, albeit at a slightly higher rate.

Websites for most Swiss communes are .ch

The thread HeatherM refers to is a really excellent one ... required reading for either prospective visitors or residents who will have visitors.

led me to that thread, which was the first time I ran into EF

Hey Retired, thanks for the advice, and give New England some love from me if you will. I hail from your spooning partner VT.

aw... don't worry. i'm not as mean as i look.

it's not really clear that the town is often also the commune. but this is not always the case. in my town there are 4 or 5 villages that make up the commune.

Gah - I just wrote a big long reply to this and my browser closed for no apparent reason - not even an error message! Bastard.

OK, so another thread resurrection...

I was looking at the AG map here and am I correct in thinking that the carte journalière from the commune is valid on the same lines? If so, fab. Next question...

My OH and I are still trying to decide what to do on Saturday. We both have a carte journalière and we have 3 options - Zermatt, Sion or a crazy all day train ride (something my OH would like to do, although it's a bit massive). We were thinking of going Neuch to Luzern to Locarno to Brig then back to Neuch. However, between Locarno and Brig, we woul have to travel through Italy. It looks like that's included in the SBB train network on the map, but I was wondering if some kind soul could help clarify please? Thanks!

*bump*

Please?

hahaha. i hate when that happens. we have ag's and when we went to italy (milan) i believe we still had to pay the bit when we were in italy. but that was our destination. sorry, but actually doesn't help you at all !

but i like the all day train ride idea. put money aside for eating in the restaurant car and hang out there. we make the most with our ag and do this all three of us from time to time and we end up living it up in the cafe car with tea and uno but it's fun. and you know, if you get bored the brig line comes into lausanne you can stop and have some eggnog if you want !

enjoy!

Yes, the carte journaliere from the commune is valid on the carte AG reseau. See this link from CFF.

As for going to Italy, I understood a swiss train derailed the other day after just going over the border and as such trains were being cancelled and re-routed. Check the CFF site before going to see where/what delays and cancellations are noted. Ditto for part of the Goldenpass from Chateaux d'oex to Montbovon due to tree falling.

If anyone is wondering whether or not the line going from Locarno to Brig (i.e. corossing through Italy) is valid on a carte journalière, it is. I checked at the train station and was told I just have to make sure I have an ID card/passport with me.
