Carte journaliere

On the CGN website under tariffs 2011 , it states: "The CGN one day pass allows you to travel free of charge for a day on any scheduled cruise."

Does this mean that if we buy a CGN one-day pass (which I assume is only valid for ferries and not trains), then we have unlimited ferry access for the day?

That's what is says on the tin.

And you reckon that applies to ALL ferries? So a hypothetical trip from Nyon>Yvoire, Yvoire>Thonons, Thonons>Lausanne, Lausanne>Evian, Evian>Lausanne, Lausanne>Montreux and Montreux>Nyon would all be valid under the carte journaliere which costs 30CHF with the demi-tariff?

demi-tariff would only be applied to you if you have it but carte-journaliere for your visitors would be the full price.

Understand that. Regardless, it's a remarkably low cost for the amount of traveling. I gather from your answer, though, that it is indeed an unlimited travel ticket.

Yes indeed, a carte-journaliere is a day pass. Here in Geneva, residents can buy maximum of 4 train tickets per day if you present a valid proof of billing for only 30chf each.

Wow wow wow. So is this carte journaliere valid for ferries AND trains?? Or are these two separate cards? I was under the impression that one was with SBB (the one you are referring to) and one was with CGN (strictly ferries).

If so, then it's a no-brainer and I need to go buy 4 of theses cards ASAP!

i think they are separate, carte journalière CFF is different to carte journalière CGN.

Dang, do you know which boats are valid on the SBB day card?

I think this would be the small transit boats within town.

All of those solid lines are "free" with the SBB day card? And this day card is only valid with a demi-tariff, no?

Have you looked on the CFF website yet?

"1-day travelpass for the Half-Fare travelcard [](http://mct.sbb.ch/mct/en/artinfo/361.html)

The Day Pass add-on to the Half-Fare Card provides you with unlimited travel for one day on railway, boat and postbus lines, as well as on tram and bus networks in most Swiss cities and agglomerations.

This ticket is available as an OnlineTicket. Special conditions apply for OnlineTickets ."

Well, yes. That's exactly what half of this conversation has been about...

I guess I'm not understanding what you're not understanding.

Haha, sorry I can see how it's a bit blurry.

It began as a query about the CGN day card. I was really just looking for a confirmation that its purchase meant unlimited travel on ferries (30 demi/60 full), but then the SBB day card was mentioned.

Although I already knew about the SBB day card, I mistakenly thought that it didn't apply to the Lac Leman ferries. The link that Ittigen provided seems to show that it does (at least for most routes), but then why would there be two different cards? Advertised for the same price?

I guess at this point my questions are:

1. If I buy the SBB day card (which is only applicable for demi tariff holders), will I be able to use it on the Lac Leman ferries?

2. What options exist for non-1/2-tariff holders? I reckon we should just buy the normal train fares and, if the normal ferry costs exceed 60chf, then we buy the CGN day card.

Thanks for the help!

I should add that there will be four travelers, 2 with demi tariff, 2 without.

Just my two rappen - without a HalbTax card, one can get the Tageskarte from your commune, which is cheaper and valid for CGN trips.

Tageskarte = 1 day AG / GA

Have you seen this thread?

Travel passes for visitors

For your guests the Lake Geneva Regional pass would be the best deal if they are staying for more than a few days. They can even go up to Rochers de Naye on a day card, which alone almost makes it worth the money. Other options are the Golden Pass Express to Gstaad or Zweisimmen from Montreux, or a trip to Gruyeres. And yes, the boats are included. (Although for some reason on the synoptic map there is no Thonon-Evian boat, but I am almost 100% certain this is an error.)

Hope this helps,

Heather

Well, OK, then. LOL.

1. Yes. On the CGN as listed on the PDF linked above, and on regular cruises as listed by Jr. You can't use them on the dinner/drinks cruises.

2. Honestly I don't know what to do about your non 1/2 card holders. It depends on how much traveling you're really going to do that day. Some times we think we are going to travel everywhere and burn up that day pass, when in reality it could have been cheaper buying point to point tickets. So, plan your day and see who it works out.

But as Jr. said, first check with your commune if they have day travel cards.
