My old Uncle gave me a check, it took about 6 weeks to get the money and it cost me about CHF 20 in fees.
Try and get the drawer of the cheque to pay the money into your own bank account or your credit card account, Switzerland doesn't use cheques any more.
PS. another of my brilliant ideas, ask a relative to cash it for you.
what type of check (American?) We had one cashed (deposited, we put it in an account rather than walked out with cash in hand) by Credit Suisse last year and it took at least 10 days, maybe 2 weeks. Raiffeisen said they would cash the check but it could take up to 6 months. HTH
OP - Not sure if you have a US bank as well, but I maintain a US checking account to pay US bills, shop online and... to accept checks. Chase and Bank of America allow you to deposit checks via their smartphone app, though there is an upper limit of daily deposits which you should look into if the average check you would want to deposit is more than .
I have no US bank... and PostFinance in Switzerland is not operating as a bank so I have my doubts if it will work. So are my only options to send it to the US to be cashed?
