Cat Flap installation needed, ZH. Any recommendations?

Hello,

I need a cat flap installed into my balcony door and need a recommendation for a reasonably priced glaser.

I had this done in the UK and it cost 80 GBP. I've had a few quotes from Glasers here and I'm looking at 500CHF upwards! Which, frankly is way too much. But before I bite the bullet and pay up can anyone offer any help?

In case you all ask, I can't give you dimensions of the glass panel in question but it is the lower half of the door (old style wooden frame with two separate glass panels, NOT the new double-glazed frames/doors).

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers!

putting into glass is expensive, you could just get the bottom panel replaced with a UPVC panel and then install it yourself, would probably save you an awful lot.

Just had another quote of 'upwards of 300chf' so if anyone has any info or knows someone, it would be great. Logically, I can't imagine anyone in CH doing it for much less than 300, but still...

Are you renting?

I ask because landlords can be... difficult... when it comes to handing the flat back if you have installed a cat door. Even when permission is given, one often needs to hand the flat back with the the flap taken out and the original panel replaced - and looking pristine. Which will cost you probably the same again as the cat flap installation.

If you can remove the bottom panel Markina suggests, do so.

Or do what neighbors of mine did - buy an inexpensive new door at Hornbach or B/H, put the cat flap in that. If your balcony door is a standard size it should still cost less. Save the old door, and re-install it before the handover. It's a lot easier to install a new door than to install a cat flap into a door not designed with that in mind.

Good luck!

We paid several 100 chuffs for our cat-flap. The window we wanted flapping is Argon(?)-filled double-glazing, so they had to make an entire new pane with the hole cut into it. We still have the original pane in the cellar should we ever want to swap it out again.

Hi there - does anyone recommend a good company that is fast and reliable (since it's going to cost a fortune anyway?)

thanks!

If you can remove your door and take it to a glazier, it will be much cheaper,

Thanks, Sbrinz - this is very helpful. The only concern is how to remove large door... Will ask the glazier... see if someone close by has an idea. Seems like there are no easy fixes on this one.

Hello!

I am wondering if anyone has a company they can recommend in the Zurich area that could install a glass door with a cat flap? And if so, what would be the price range I am looking at? (I know, probably expensive ).

And while I am on the topic of my adorable, loveable cat, anyone know someone who could build a cat ladder so my ball of fur can get into the flat on his own (as we just moved to a flat on the first floor and so we will need to install a ladder). I have two left hands and don't have a handy man in my life unfortunately .

And in case you are wondering, yes, we already got the owner's approval to install the glass door with a cat flap as well as permission from our neighbours to install a ladder

Thanks so much!

Hi,

Not sure about the cat flap installation but you can probably find a cat ladder on

https://www.anibis.ch/fr/default.aspx .

They had few on there in the last few weeks like this https://www.anibis.ch/de/d-tiere-~-t...iew=2&fcid=931 .

Good luck in finding what you want.

Darcy

Thanks a lot! I also just noticed QualiPet sells some.

If anyone has recommendations for someone that can install a glass door with a cat flap, let me know!

A cat flap cannot be fitted into an existing double glazing panel- the panel has to be replaced and the cat flap fitted into new panel for vacuum seal to work. It is expensive- we just paid 385- and it is for a window, not a door- where it would probably be over 500.

Bargain Best quote I've had in our bit of out-in-the-sticks was 1200, for a small window. Suffice to say, the little monster has to suck it up and wait to be let out and in the door

One of the many joys of living in the boonies

He's got the hang of it in a few days, and the ramp- in, out, in, out ... not so easy on 3 legs.

I used to just leave my window open. My cat came and went as he wanted.

Where? Probably not in the mountains at nearly 1000m- in winter

In Zurich. In winter and it was also sometimes minus 10. The window was a little open and and the outside blinds were down so he had a small space to come in.
