Cat grooming for cats who hate grooming

Hi there,

I'm looking for a cat groomer who can handle cats who really don't like being groomed.

I have two long-haired cats, one of which who, despite our efforts, really hates being groomed. He, unfortunately, has some pretty bad knots/mats on his belly under, and in between, his legs that should be removed.

All the groomers I've spoken to until now will only take cats that are somehow willing to be groomed. And even the vet was only able to cut one knot off last time we were there.

In my mind, they'd perhaps have to put the cat to sleep, then shave his underbelly etc. Any tips for groomers who might be able to support within reach of Zurich would be greatly appreciated.

It will be almost impossible to groom a cat that has decided it doesnt want to cooperate...

The cat needs to hold still in order for it to work or there is risk of injury for both cat and groomer.

Light sedation at the vets office sounds like the way to go.

Then shave them. That'll teach them. (No, it won't, and I don't advocate cruelty to cats. But don't let them breed. Cats are stupid enough as it is. Ours runs into walls head first).

We always took our Sasha (RIP) to the vet for grooming under sedation. In her later years, when she was too old for sedation, she let us shave off her knots (very slowly, sometimes it took 2-4 days per knot). She looked terrible as it was all uneven / we are not professional groomers. We got the grooming kit at Qualipet. The things you do for love...
