I would like to move to Switzerland with my Swiss girlfriend, who will be going back next summer. I am planning on getting a job teaching English over there. From the research I've done so far, I have found that I need to get the CELTA certificate. Is this only offered in Switzerland? Or can I get a CELTA certificate here in the states before I move to Switzerland? Also, I've heard something about being "Eduqua certified." Does anybody know anything about any of this stuff? Thanks for your help. I hope I'm posting in the right place...
Hello,
The CELTA website lists locations where you can get their certification here .
Best of luck.
Thanks for the link!
I have another question concerning the CELTA course...
Is it better to take the 4 week CELTA certificate course in Switzerland, in order to show your willingness to adapt to the local customs, etc. than taking it in the states? In other words, will I have a better chance getting a teaching job in Switzerland with a CELTA certificate awarded from a program in Switzerland than one in the United States? (Or is this concern too trivial to worry about?)
Don't forget that the competition for jobs teaching English as a second or foreign language in Switzerland is very high. To have a chance in the current market you probably need some experience on top of the qualification.
Thanks for the advise, swissbob.
