I’m trying to help a friend here in the uk whose husband recently died. He held a vested benefit account having previously worked in Switzerland several years ago. My friend has completed some paperwork to try and access the fund but is keep being asked to provide a certificate of inheritance? what is this document or the UK equivalent. They are both UK nationals. He died in the UK . Grateful for any advice on how to resolve this.
I am not 100% certain but I think she needs the letter of probate or possibly a letter of administration.
An inheritance certificate as such doesn’t exist in the UK.
In this case since the deceased and his surviving spouse were both UK residents at the time of death and they are probably dealing with a UK will I think a uk solicitor would be the best place to sort this out.
If there is a solicitor dealing with the will and estate they will be able to provide the necessary documents.
