Certificate of Residence in UK to withdraw 2nd pillar

Hello,

I intend to withdraw my vested benefits/2nd pillar from Switzerland. I’m living in the UK and the Swiss pension provider (CS/UBS) is asking for a ‘current certificate of residence’.

This is not actually a thing in the UK…I’ve phoned them a couple of times and it seems they want something official from the government or something from a solicitor (which won’t happen).

Does anyone know what they might accept from the UK or done this or something like it before? Council tax bill as the obvious choice I asked about and they won’t accept.

Thanks, Dan

Ask UBS if they’ll accept a letter from your council saying that you are resident there. Then ask your council if they’ll write it for you.

If you have a Swiss passport, you can obtain a certificate of residence from the UK Swiss embassy.

If you search on the UK Gov website there’s a form there.

For individuals, use Form RES1. You’ll also need supporting documents like utility bills, bank statements, council tax bills, employment records, healthcare records, HMRC correspondence. Once approved, HMRC will issue your Certificate of Residence.

However is that really needed? The process used to be much simpler with 2nd pillar getting automatically deposited to your bank account after de-registration.

@ddilling did you sort this out? Curious what documents were accepted.

Your link has various links to the forms. However, I think RES1 is just for partnerships. You can fill the linked form here.
