We've moved house and I'm not sure of my translation of the change of address mechanism...

I think the above page says that I just need to fill in the form (which I've done), and that will cover the drivers license and vehicle registration.

Can anyone confirm this, or tell me if it says something different?

You have to send in the vehicle registrations (grey cards), as address is printed on them. (You may also go to the place in person)

Make a photo copy of them.

Put all originals in a envelope.

Print on a paper:

Adressänderung.

plus your new address.

Put paper in envoelobe

Put stamp on envelope (Either CHF 0.85 or CHF 1)

Print Address of StVA on lower right corner of envelope:

Strassenverkehrs- und Schifffahrtsamt Kanton St.Gallen

Frongartenstrasse 5

9001 St. Gallen

Print your address on upper left corner of envelope.

Seal enevelope.

Put envelope in nearest yellow post box.

Put copies in car glove box/ motorcylce jacket etc.

Wait for new gray cards with new address and a bill.

Swap copies for originals.

That's all you need to do as long as you have a credit card style licence ( which is extremely likely) and you haven't changed your car.

It doesn't say you have to send the grey card to them.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

I couldn't separate the driving license and vehicle registration parts of the rules, I'm not sure why they can't put two clear bullet points on the page :-(

It does:

It would be three / (four) bullet points: FAK (Credit card license) -> Online. Blue driving license -> Fill out form and Send in. Grey cards -> Send in. (Go there in person make all at once)

What's the translation of "einlösen" here?

I thought that meant if the vehicle had been sold or something?

Thanks. I thought it meant you only had to send it if the car had changed. The use of einlösen is a bit ambiguous IMO.

We didn't have to send ours in when we moved. We informed them and they sent a new grey card by post and told us to destroy the old one. Different canton though.

To register vehicle with the StVA to get plates and grey card.

Falls Sie aber Fahrzeuge eingelöst haben... == But if you have you vehicles which are registered...

(Oppose to unregistered vehicles which you have in storage)

It is clear and unambiguous. Just a few more months of German practice and you will come to the same conclusion.

SG Strassenverkehrsamt confirmed that I do have to send in the vehicle registration, but with a nice surprise.
