Changing address during permit renewal process

Hi there,

I have a question, please, hope that if someone have been in a similar situation could advise...

Can I move to the different canton while my permit undergoes extension process?

I hold B permit, which will expire next year (EU citizen). I live in Bienne and here the permit renewal is a lengthy process. We will need to move in summer to a different canton (due to my son's studies).

I am afraid, that the permit renewal will take so long that we would need to move by the time we will get a permit. I really hope that 5 months to renew the permit will be sufficient...

If someone has been in similar situation, please let me know.

Far as I know you can only apply to renew a permit about a month in advance, so …

I guess check with the cantonal migration office you plan to move to and see what they say.

It shouldn’t be a problem for an EU national. Freedom of movement and all that.
