Cheap phone calls

Apologies if this has been posted before (I didn't find anything, albeit after a brief search).

When calling Switzerland (either mobile or land line) from the UK I have all manner of cheap-rate numbers I can use (to get between 0.5ppm to 10ppm for mobiles).

Do any numbers like this exist for calling *from* Switzerland? (from either mobile or land line)

Rebtel is a good one to start with ...

Discussion: Discount Phone cards

If you have internet I've been happy with Voipstunt, you can search the forum for this (and how to use it with a Siemens handset)

Thanks for all the information. I will look into these options!

Voip calls are unreliable for me as I have a pretty slow connection.

u can try justvoip. it has a phone to phone function, that allows u to enter 2 numbers on their website which will be connected with each other, once connected it is independant of connection speed. depending on where u are calling, the rates may vary, so do check first.

We use helvatel for all international calls. It is cheap and you can call both landlines and cell numbers.

I use 10787. It is a debit system. You must prepay.

Here goes... this is the best ever, beats phone cards and the rest of it all.

Dial: 0900556654 (the call opening is in German, for those who don't understand German, wait for the voice to end, then enter the complete phone number with code, followed by the '#' key and tah-daaaaaaad!

I use this number to call India and Australia from my landline (guess it can be used to call anywhere in the world? it costs between 5-10 raps per min and 10 raps tax or something for the entire call. Super cheap IMHO.

I use 10787. Also Comparis confirms it is the cheapest.

It is not prepay, but you get a bill monthly.

I'm trying to decide if I should invest in the SIP hardware. So, to those who have suggested SIP service:

How is the quality, especially to other phones? I've heard bad things about quality of Skype calling phones (as opposed to two people sitting at their computers), and I have a free SIP service (PolyPhone from the ETH) that I've tried (software phone) and the person I called had trouble to hear me well(even though I have a good internet connection).

+1 for SIP with an ATA. Far better than the PC to PC or PC to phone methods. I use Switzernet with free unlimited and untimed local calls to landlines including to those in US, DE, FR, UK and Singapore for only CHF 9/- per month. It is also the cheapest to call mobile in CH. Don't forget to let me know if you are going to subscribe!

Anyone know something about quality of a SIP service on a smartphone?

I use Fring on a WM6 Smartphone. Works great!

Skype phone-out (PC to fixnet) can be patchy.

Hi everyone. Great forum you have here.

I'm currently also investigating on how to get cheap calls in / to Switzerland.

Not only that, it also has access numbers. Interesting if you have a possibility to call landlines for free...

Oops, looks like I hit submit a little too early on that last post, sorry.

Some links that might add to the discussion:

Current Betamax rates

Notice that you can call landlines for free and mobile phones for as low as 8.5 eurocent per minute.

VoIP support in Nokia devices

No need for Fring etc., those phones support SIP natively.

I am looking for something along the line for cheaper international call rates online and bump into the following links, being somewhat skeptical about such 900 numbers, I wonder if anyone has tried it and it actually works and not a scam?
