Next weekend I want to hire a large estate car or small van for the weekend (moving into a new apartment) and i've tried a couple of the main websites and am being quoted around 520 CHF for 2 days... which seems a hell of a lot to me. Is there anywhere that is known for being as close to cheap as chips for this type of thing as Zurich gets?
Did you check this thread , many names/numbers are recommended and also the ones you should avoid to contact. If you can drive you could check with mobility.ch. We used mobility van once, if you book in advance you can get bigger vans.
yes, look in the thread mentioned, they are generaly 80-100 chf by the hour.
Thanks guys but thats a "man with a van"... I just need the van without any men, and preferably for 2 days hire.

You can order the van to be delivered to your local pick up spot as well.
Managed to get a sweet corporate discount on a van from Hertz for 2 days... around 200 CHF all in! Thanks for the suggestions guys was appreciated.
Many stores rent vans for around 35-40 per hour. Interio, Ottos and Lipo certainly do it. Biggest problem is parking the darn thing overnight - we ended up taking it back and collecting again the next morning. You may also need a permit to park it outside your apartment block when loading/unloading (I am not joking). Don't do any moving before 7am, between 12 and 1, unless you want to annoy your neighbours. Someone might call the cops on you too. Sunday is obviously forbidden too.
One of my neighbours comes running out in his PJs and tells off the Coop delivery driver when he delivers at 8pm. Better to stick to the rules and avoid the nutters.
