Cheapest gym in Zurich (for weight training) (non-student)?

I assume the University offers the cheapest gym in Zurich.

If you're not a student, though, are there any cheap options for basic weight training?

I just need a place with a good set of dumbbells.

The more bare-bones, sweaty and unpretentious the better.

This is Zurich you are talking about - have a look round for Boxing Clubs is the best I can suggest.

Do you have space to get your own set?

Easy Fit is relatively cheap. (you are in Zurich you know). I think its CHF39 per month (excluding the first time admin fee...... )

It's pretty basic and you have to pay for the showers (CHF 0.50)...

I have seen subscriptions for around 300.-/year, a lot of the standard clubs have to downgrade because of the fierce competition at the top end (Migros Fitness etc just offer a lot of extras)

Nice option. Thanks. CHF39/month is not bad, assuming the sign-up fee is not too much. Since it's in Seebach, though, it may not make sense unless I'm living in that neighborhood. There's no greater demotivator than having to commute a long distance to the gym.

CHF 740 annual at Active Fitness:

No sign-up or other up-front fees.

They are Migros owned. Subscription valid at all 13 studios in ZH. So you can find one close to you, either near work (during the week) or near home (at weekends).

Sounds better than moving to Seebach.

Perfect! Thanks!

IF you have a university degree you can sign up at the ETH gym for 350 francs. It doesn't matter where you graduated from, as long as you have a degree.

I recently signed up and I'm happy with it.

Also they have several gyms, plenty of classes like spinning, judo, rowing, aerobics and have a pool somewhere as well.

The main gym is very big and there is a pretty varied clientele. All ages.

I recommend it.

Thanks for the info. That's a great deal. So, it can be a university degree from any country? (Strange requirement.) What kind of proof of the degree do they require?

According to their website, it can be a university degree from any country.

They require a copy of the degree, copy of passport/driver's licence and a passport photo to be sent with the application form.

I just brought a copy of my degree. I did graduate in CH, but they insisted that it didn't matter. You could probably have your uni email you or fax you a something certifying that you are indeed a graduate.

They call it an alumni abo. You need a passport photo, ID, your degree and 350 francs.
