Scrap everything I wrote above then . . .
Ah . . . you're talking about functional drinking!
Wine. A few bottles from Coop at about the 7 chuffies mark can be quite decent. And you can pretend to be right posh innit.
As for hurl-y-mann or fieldtossen.... No thanks.
Off the top of my head I can think of three places that do 0.5l for around the CHF 5.5 mark. Strauss-Bar on Langstrasse, Cafe Enge at Enge and The Fork & Bottle. Unfortunately I think in each location it's Feldschlossen and the first one is very basic.
I seem to remember the Langstars bar on Langstrasse being cheap too, but can't remember how much.
Hooters at Helvetiaplatz is actually a pretty cheap place for beer, if only the waitresses were prettier...
Of course! How could I forget Hooters. That's less than CHF 6 for a 0.5l and even cheaper by the pitcher.
Also for cheap cocktails with a decent atmosphere - Barfly'z does most of its cocktails for CHF 12.
In honor of this thread, I stopped by Denner on the way home yesterday, bought a can, then took it to my garage and drank it!

Paul beer always gives me a nasty headache the next day.. anyone else?
Never even heard of it.
Tom
How much of it did you drink?
What! You guys pay more than 6.50 for a 5dl Appenzella on the lake?
Hooters next to langstrasse is very cheap for beer (6chf or so per pint I think) and the food is decent and also very reasonable.
Riff Raff sells 0.33 pints for 4.50
Acapulco 5ish
Mata Hari 5ish, 0.5 7ish
Andorra 6-7ish
Kaiser Franz 5-8ish (bothe bars have the best beer selection so far)
Olé bar 5-8
nah, its too many to mention. You get a swiss beer in 0.33 betwen 4.50-5
and imported lager 5-8. kebap joints sell it for 5-6 chf, denner 1.10 - 1.60.
and even lovely czech budvar.
I prefer the 0.568 pints normally
