Tips on cheapest places to shop for food in Lausanne? I usually go to migros and have been considering the drive to lidl.. Just wondering if anyone knows any hidden gems out there. I like to cook and rarely eat out.. Been in CH for just 4 months. So any tips are appreciated.
Denner is less expensive than Migro / Coop (especially for chicken, veggies), although there is much less choice. There is a Denner in the Metropole in Chaudron
I would suggest Aldi before Lidl as having better selection.
You should make sure that you receive the weekly flyers in your mailbox. You really need to shop at more than one of the majors (Migros, Coop, Denner, Aldi etc.) to get the best deals.
If you happen to have a freezer, that will open up some more options.
Often later in the day Coop puts meat on special (25 or 50% off) if it is short dated. If the meat is already on special and is reduced, you can really save some money. Migros does so as well but it seems less and their stickers are harder to see so you might miss them.
Aldi and Lidl do the same, I’ve often picked up fresh meats/poultry with up to 30-50% off because it’s coming up to the use by date. This is especially true if you shop on Fridays/Saturdays. Great way to stock the freezer up with meats/poultry if you’re running low.
Migros and Coop can also be quite affordable if you focus on the budget and prix garantie range. As a student without a car, my most accessible option was Migros. M Budget got me through 4 years of student life
It is at least 60km one way for that journey. While it could be done on public transport the cost will be more than any saving. Even the cost of gas/petrol for a 120+km journey is going to eat into savings.
