I searched around but couldn't find anything and since I don't live in CH anymore I found it hard to call SBB and thought there might be other business people around here that travel from Basel to Brussels and back every weekend.
My current boss will do this for a year and i have to find the cheapest flights and respectively cheapest trains for him to travel to Brussels on Friday and come back Monday morning.
Anyone has been through this before?
How much cheaper is it with SBB if he buys a return non-refundable ticket with 2-4 weeks in advance?
Actually how much is the train ticket?
I am searching Swissair now and see hat other flight option he could have with stopovers in Frankfurt or Paris.
Any suggestions are welcome. You would help me out of a huge research headache.
oh, i am not asking you to research this for me. i just thought there might be someone around here that already knows these things and could just share...which would mean 2 minutes from their life
i found out that the best way is to book a flight with Swiss 2 months in advance and it would be 300chf per return flight...
the train through TGV is 170 eur return ticket...so maybe someone knows how much it is if we buy it through sbb and what offers do they have for a "in advance" booking...
Using the SBB's Click and Rail Europe, you can get from Basel to Cologne (Koeln) for 48 CHF each way, see this site . That is not too far from Brussels, so could be useful (there's no Click and Rail equivalent for Belgium through the SBB). Those tickets always go on sale 7 days ahead of time, and are quite limited. You can only get a ticket originating in Zurich with that, but no-one will mind if you just get on in Basel and use it from there.
indeed you are right it seems their cheapest flight is 170chf booked 2 months in advance at the Economy Saver class...i guess these tickets sell fast and are few though...
