Is there any cheaper ways to travel, i am thinking of taking lift
But never done it before so don't know how it's going to end.
Do you have any experience?
I am st gallen and planing on spending my weekend in zurich. Just curious that what is the cheapest mean of travel from st gallen to zurich.

MrVertigo - but he most likely doesn't do the round trip within one day. As I understand from his post, he wants to spend the weekend in Zürich.. Otherwise the Gemeinde ticket is a great option!
Another option (if you can't find a car) is - SBB Sparbillet . Only thing is that you must choose a certain train and usually at more odd ours. But maybe you can travel outside the rush hour?

Zürich isn't the best place to visit with a Gleis 7, as it's not valid inside the ZVV except on the SBB. No buses etc. It'll get you there on the train, though.
A return St. Gal -> Zürich HB on the train is a princely Fr29,- with a halbtax.
Remember that by default return tickets over this distance are only valid to return on the same day, so it'll be necessary to buy two singles. Doesn't change the total price.
This is absolutely cheap if you want cheap ride a velo
