Chemical Engineering Jobs in Switzerland>?....

I am a chemical engineering student at the University of Ottawa, in Ontario, Canada. Currently I am very interested in living in Switzerland, and I am wondering as I research about Switzerland if anyone knows anything about current opportunities in the engineering fields, particularly chemical engineering. Any information is useful, as I am presently searching the internet, night and day, looking and reading information about Switzerland, Economy, jobs and lifestyles.

Thanks again,

Angus

If you want to find work in an academic setting (grad' student, post doc', etc), then try either of the two national technical universities: ETH in Zurich or EPFL in Lausane.

Syngenta and Dupont are also another two worth keeping an eye on.

Good luck with your search!

Hi Angus,

Just to let you know, if you don't have an EU passport it will be very, very hard to get a permit because your employer will have to prove that there is no one else in the EU suitable for the position.

However, because you're a recent grad you can get a permit to work as a trainee for up to 18 months. The program is administered in Canada by IYE , which is a private company that took over the program from the office of foreign affairs a few years ago. So it's a legit program, but it's not free. To participate you'll need to have some knowledge of a Swiss language (which I assume for you is French). I think the trainee permit is your best bet, but I don't know much about them. You might want to search this site to see if anyone else knows more about them, or perhaps even if you can get them without going through an agency like IYE?

Good luck with your job search, this is a great country to live in (but they don't have poutine, so it's not perfect. )

On a final note: Go Habs!

I have a EU passport.... which will save me some effort... and might boost my chances of employment. With regards to the language, I speak French and English so hopefully that will be sufficient for now..

GO Sens! , I am from Ottawa.. heheh

But is not Switzerland not part of the EU? So why sould one need a EU passport?

Do some searching on the forum there is tons of information on it. Due to bilateral agreements for most purposes it's like Switzerland is in the EU, particularly pertaining to employment and living.

one more company to add in the list.

Syngenta (Basel)

Good luck.
