does any one know what is chewing gum in this part of the world ?

it is a love and hate situation especially if you have kids and carpet around you.

Quite sure it is similar to the rest of the world....

I'm not sure I get your question.

To my understanding, the answer is "Kaugummi".

I understand that the dentists advise children to chew the sugar free stuff. I was horrified, I can't bear seeing the mindless jaw rotation that it involves. this has lead to me being a not popular Mummy.

The Swiss munch 2000 tons of chewing gum a year so it's more love than hate... That's about 263g per person or about half a gum per day.

And I hate it that people don't always dispose of them properly. This week I was in a bar and unconsciously touched the area below the table edge. Two chewing gums.

Chewing gum is fine. It is people who sit there popping it all day at work that drives me insane.

Grrrrrrr i am not a fan of chewing gum, i have lost count how many times i have had it stuck to the bottom of my shoes, then i have to spend time finding something to scrape it off with.

Popping gum is addictive. But it's soooo disgusting, isn't it?

I hate when people just spit it out on the ground and you step in it on it on a hot day in sandals. Ewwwwwwwwwww

thank you all.

I hold nothing against chewing gum, but it is the chewing etique that some times drive me mad.

at least, getting dog **** off your clothes is much easier than chewing gum.

by the way, does anyone has an easy way of getting chewing gum off human hair ?

Eucalyptus oil is one method ( before someone mentions scissors!) that I know works well, I have heard of peanut butter being used with success as well (just sounds a bit "gloopy" to me). Just watch if using the Eucalyptus oil that it doesn't get near to eyes or, "other sensitive" bits.

Mind you, I guess the same thing would apply to Peanut Butter, I don't imagine it would be very pleasant getting an eyeful of that either.

For other objects ( as long as they are not made of fine synthetic fibres- it will probably melt it :-/) that get chewing gum on them, putting them in the freezer till it hardens and scraping with the back of a knife will remove the bulk of it quickly, any residue should be easy to get rid of with Eucalyptus oil.

P.S. Actually, on thinking about it, Olbas, or similar oils you can get, would probably be just as good and likely cheaper.

me too, also not a polpular Mommy , my kids are not aloud to chew gum.

I HATE gum, sorry guys but it is the most annoying thing to sit and watch while having a chat with someone and the someone is chewing gum....with an open mouth

It is number one on my list of things they should ban!!

Put ice on it!

chewing gum is banned in Singapore, if anyone was curious :P

One of my professors at Bristol, Terry Cosgrove, just invented chewing gum that doesn't stick. You can see a video of him on the Revolymer web site. Apparently some big companies are interested. Also coming soon biodegradable chewing gum, but apparently it can start degrading in the mouth, making a very unpleasant impression. Yuck.

Thanks once again all.

It is gratifying to know that members of this forum does have similar feelings towards chewing gum.

the methods suggested could very well be effective, but I finally resolved to use scissors.

Petrol is good for shifting it from hair. I have very vivid memorys of a small can of yellow lighter fuel, my face/hair/clothing getting a good douse of said fluid and voila, no more residue (except the lingering smell)

Smooth peanut butter (not the crunchy stuff). It really works. Let it soak in for a bit. That's why there's no chocolate flavoured chewing gum. The cocoa butter emulsifies the gum.

By the way did you know Wrigley's patented a viagra gum to put extra "spear" in your spearmint. No really! Look it up. And there's a Zoft breast enhancement gum which gives firmer fuller breasts in 30 days or your money back. So versatile this gum stuff.

For me, one of the most annoying things on television is watching Sir Alex Ferguson chewing "spickie".

I also hate the noise made when people chew with their mouths open.

Its kinda addictive. I always get a feeling that i miss something when i don't chew one. Have to quit ASAP
