Chiasso Border - walking distance from SBB?

Hi,

Do you know if Chiasso train station is closed to the border and how far is to walk through the customs?

Cheers

A

A hundred meters or two.

Tom

Pretty well right on the border

Thanks.

Reason saying is because it cost 10 chf each way per head for 5 min trains on the EC from Chiasso to Como. A trip from Zug to Chiasso costs 20 CHF (halb tax). Literally a joke from Trenitalia perspective.

As they could pick us up at Chiasso border, it would save 80 chuffs per trip.

Not sure who "they" are, but not sure why you'd need to cross by foot - there is freedom of movement in the Schengen zone. They could come right to the station to pick you up, no? Also, it only costs a few francs to go from Chiasso to Como on the S10. Or 1 euro something on the bus.

By the way, Zug-Chiasso for 20 francs? 30 I think.

" friends"

We were told that there could be long queues of Italian cars crossing the border on the weekend. By crossing by foot, we may save time

Sparbillette is cheaper if available. Standard is 30chf

Chiasso railway station is right on the border. Traffic at the weekend should be reasonable - most people use other crossings at the weekend (people crossing Switzerland on the highway, for example).

It's €5,20 from Chiasso to Como San Giovanni. You might get a discount for kids aged 4-14.

Yes, I would suggest that as well, as even with no traffic, it's quicker to walk to Italy than to drive through the maze that is Chiasso to get to the station from Italy.
