Chick Lit Authors/Summer Reading suggestions?

Hi all..

I LOVE to read and my all time favorit type of books are the chick-lit genre... I simply adore reading books that can make me laugh out loud! However I need suggestions on Authors. I have read all books published by Jill Mansell, Catherine Alliott and Marian Keyes and I'm desperately seeking out other authors that write light fun and funny books.

Please advise!

Thanks

Nick Spalding's good-light,funny summer reads.

Love from both sides and love and sleepless nights were great(IMO)

Thank you for your suggestion Tanyarama. I'll get me these and will let you know how i enjoy them.

Have a nice summer!!

Jane Austen, they are selling her two sets of semi complete work of novels, at the English books Payot near by the Cornavin.

Bronte is also cool for the summer, though I didn't laugh so much, maybe I was too little.

Chick lit authors I quite like are, Belinda Jones, Lindsey Kelk & Jane Green.

The ultimate in chick-lit.

My summer indulgence feels a tad less of a guilty pleasure when the author hails from an even slightly bygone era. But it's chick-lit all the same - and a delightful way to spend a few hours on a lazy summer afternoon.

Rose Macaulay, Elizabeth von Arnim, Angela Thirkell, Dorthoy Whipple, Mollie Panter-Downes, Marghanita Laski to name a few.

Yep, austen for sure. As for Bronte, there are amusing bits in Jane Eyre, but I have never, ever been able to get through wuthering heights.

Jennifer Crusie, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Sophie Kinsella plus there is a huge market of Austen derivative lit and mash ups (e.g., zombies, sea monsters, etc). Some is quite good, others at least amusing.

I love Marian Keyes. It's great chick lit, but a bit less cissy than Kinsella

Nice to see people appreciating the classics, too..Aside of those, I have no idea what chick lit is. I thought at times it was The Cement Garden, or Vinnetou.

Hi,

Im a big Marian Keys fan, very amusing, if you are interested I have about 7 titles from her which I would like to sell, read once so in excelent condition...

Cheers Gazzy

If you like a bit of Regency romance then Stephanie Laurens is quite good I’ve discovered. She’s got nearly 20 books in her Cynster series, starting with “Devil’s Bride”.

Janet Evanovitch and her 'Stephanie Plum' series (waiting for nb 19!) is huge fun. Stephanie Plum is a bad bounty hunter who somehow manages to catch big fish, while having a romantic life. It's light and funny, I love it!

I have books 1-17 at home plus a few of her other books, if someone wants to come pick them up

+1 for Austen and Bronte. I'm re-reading all of Nancy Mitford's novels at the moment. I agree with one of the reviewers, they are 'utter, utter bliss', especially The Pursuit of Love and Love in a Cold Climate. The Mapp & Lucia series by E.F Benson are also lovely, as are all of Georgette Heyer's books.

I like the The Parasol Protectorate Series from Gail Carriger . The books remind me of Jane Austen, a great and light read for summer.

Synopsis:

"Alexia Tarabotti is laboring under a great many social tribulations. First, she has no soul. Second, she’s a spinster whose father is both Italian and dead. Third, she was rudely attacked by a vampire, breaking all standards of social etiquette."

Bridget Jones by Helen Fielding

Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot . Had me laughing out loud!

OH YES!!!! These 2 books were HILARIOUS!!!! Had me cackling with laughter!!!! Wonderful wonderful wonderful books!!

Same here... I had no idea what it was. Before reading through the thread, I would have guessed it to be something like Anais Nin (my favorite writer).

Totally love the Mitford books. I listen to a lot of audio books, and just finished Nora Ephron's Heartburn, read by Meryl Streep. Very funny but maybe more "American".

Now I'm back to nonfiction, but if you like Jane Austen, Paula byrne's "the real Jane Austen" is excellent - blending details from her life with letters and bits from her books. It's not a heavy read.

I definitely recommend Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" series, I'm currently halfway through book two and loving it!

Book one was published as "Crosstitch" in UK and "Outlander" in USA, book two is "Dragonfly in amber".

Other chick lit books I read in the last year:

"The Second Chance Café" - Alison Kent

"Fame" and "Do Not Disturb" - Tilly Bagshawe (standalone books)

"Etiquette for the End of the World" - Jeanne Martinet

"Attachments" - Rainbow Rowell

"Ape House" - Sarah Gruen (author of "Water for elephants")

Anything Kate Furnivall: "The red scarf", "The white pearl" "The Russian Concubine", "The Concubine's Secret", "The Jewel of St. Petersburg" (the last three are a series and this is the publication order)

"The Shadowy Horses" - Susanna Kearsley (not strictly chick lit, a bit of mystery thrown in too)

"The night circus" - Erin Morgenstern (not strictly chick lit, a bit of fantasy)

If anyone liked the recommendations, maybe you'd want to check my Pinterest book board (link here )for future reference, I keep adding everything I read... (not only chick lit books though). Also the pins are linked to Amazon so you can quickly check reviews or buy them for your kindle.
