Chickenpox - any home soothing remedies to recommend?

And Feniallerg drops every few hours to help with the itching!

My two youngest got such a bad case of chicken pox, I just gave up on applying the badigeon blanc with a qtip on the spots, i just slathered it on everywhere

And my youngest got spots IN his mouth and down his throat, which was the nightmare you can imagine...

Zinc ointment, worked the best for us. Stopped the itching, desinfected, dried the spots fast. And ask your child to do chicken pox art (self portrait, etc.), it was cool for my kid to look at it later, what she "managed to survive".

I suggest putting the calamine (zinc) lotion that the doctor will provide (or the pharmacy) in the refrigerator. Shake well before applying it. The coolness helps a bit...

It was you, Tilia, who told me years ago on the forum to try Rosewater for chicken pox and I did. It's excellent stuff and I always have a bottle of it at hand since, as well as witch hazel which is another great one for the skin.

I think it was 2009/2010. Don't the years fly.

In the US, there’s caladryl gel. It’s clear, very cooling as it goes on, is thick and doesn’t smell quite so bad - it’s similar to calamine lotion. Is it available in the UK?

It used to be so I would assume it still is.

The recommended one here is Virasoothe gel. Seems pretty good. Poor kid, she's covered.

Is she sick with it, too? My sister and I had it at the same time, both similar coverage of spots but she was fine to play and get on as normal whereas I had fever, headache, the works.

Do they still have chicken pox parties during term time?

Mums have playdates so kids aren't ill during holidays and don't spread the virus to visiting aunties, grannies/gramps, etc.. or so they can still get to Gran Canaria or Costa del Sunshine. (wouldn't have minded costa del sunshine after freezing my youknowwhat off in Zurich all week )

Hope the little ones are feeling better today.

Oh my. Sorry to hear about your little one. If you need to cover dots in places on face or near mouth Honey on the dots for at least 20 mins works well to help itching and healing. Also apple cider vinegar (the more natural ones with the mother) helps relieve itching and dries out the wounds. She can sit in a bath with vinegar or just apply directly. Wishing your little one a quick recovery.

Thank you all.

She's a bit brighter today but sore. The blisters are mostly starting to dry up but there are some persistent ones.

We've done the oats and bicarb and the rosewater is on order. She has some near her mouth and will give the honey a go.

Now... a badly teething 5 month old...

Xxx

If you wish to avoid scars, the minute blisters dry out, use a very greasy ointment to rub in the affected area once a day, it will stop the itch, too. We had our stuff for a few cents from my country but I am sure Booths has some re-epiderm. stuff, too.

On it. At the mo she's too sore but Boots ( well actually our down-the-road local pharmacy) has indeed got stuff.
