Chinese restaurants in Adliswil (15 min from Zurich HB):

- China Restaurant Hei Fung (Soodstrasse 17, 8134 Adliswil) - Great food and service.

- China Restaurant ZEN (Im Sihlhof 1, 8134 Adliswil) - Liked: Food, Atmosphere / Disliked: Value

I'm organizing an authentic Chinese lunch/dinner for my colleagues and am targeting Ya Ke's Chinese/Taiwanese 'menu', generally verbal. Last time I was there, their Taiwanese dumplings and dips were lovely.

Appreciate your recommendations if you have tried their Taiwanese dishes. PM me if you need to describe in Chinese.

Restaurant LUO - serves Peking Duck and a really good spicy beef dish (can't remember the exact name, but it's listed under their specials)

In this thread nobody talked about Asian Palace.

In the Marriot Hotel.

Should be excellent or not?

We had quite bad experience with Chinese food in Switzerland (so far...).

In Zug I ordered noodles, and they came out with a noodle soup dish where the noodles were spaghetti (I am Italian-Japanese so both sides of my personality suffered..).

In Zurich Triemli, I had a take away (quite expensive) and we throwed away the whole things. It looked as if everything was boiled and mixed with Oyster or other "chemical" sauce.

The other things I noticed is that they tend to serve entrée, main meal and dessert (typical North European). Does such a thing exist in china?

I thought that in far eastern cuisine you had a dozen different small dishes to eat with your rice or noodles (this is my experience).

So I am curious to try one of your suggestion to be positively surprised.

Cheers & bon weekend

I am mostly familiar with Northern Chinese food and to some extent do they have the concept:

- there are little starters, at least in better restaurants. But they are tiny snacks to bridge the time till the first dish can arrive, nothing more.

- the soup will be served at the END of a meal...

- the concept of deserts is spreading fast.

But the Swiss ones of course do it the Swiss way as it is what Swiss customers would expect.

I can recommend Ya Ke as mentioned above - with one comment: Their menu is the same stuff as all other serve. They have a second "authentic" menu on request, but I guess you ideally speak Chinese... although the owners are genuinely nice and probably the most welcoming hosts I have seen in Swiss restaurants, so I am sure they will explain it to non-Chinese speakers as well. Cooking was authentic, not exactly exciting but solid. And the portions were massive.

Hi all

Any good suggestions about good chinese restaurant in zurich will be welcome. Have been to a couple of them (Suan Long, Cafe Beyond) but generally not impressed. Too much of the standard stuff (fried, sweet and sour etc) being dished out without panache!

thanks for your replies

I quite like Lemon Grass and would recommend the place over Beyond.

Give it a try... it's at Tram stop "Englischviertelstrasse."

I've never been, but according to the realpickygourmet ( http://therealpickygourmet.com/ ) the best one in Zürich would be Beyond:

I was advised to ask for the real Sichuan menu, not the normal menu that they first offer you. My sister in law, who is Chinese and from Shanghai, also recommends it.

IMO places like Peking Garden (HORRIBLE) and Suan Long are too westernized and certainly do not offer the real deal. Any place that serves luminous orange coloured glossy & sticky sweet & sour dishes puts me off.

I have just been to my local chinese (handily at the end of my road in our small village) and had a fantastic meal (not sure if my recommendation is good as I'm not a great chinese food fan) but I did enjoy this - had a take out 2 weeks ago and ate in tonight and can recommend

Downside is it's miles out of Zurich

Jade Garden, Esslingen (near Egg)

Has anyone on EF tried Min Kang Yuan in Kussnacht am Rigi? Any good?

I am new here in Zurich, but learned from my friends (we are all chinese) that there is a ridiculously expensive Chinese restaurant called 'LUO' specialized in Shanghai cuisine. Personally it is difficult for me to accept the price of 60-80 CHF per person for Chinese food. But I suppose it is a decent place, in case any of you would want to give it a try.

I was also told that Suan-Long (aka Asian Moon) is more reasonable in price. May give it a try the other day.
