chocolate cake

have you had the chocolate truffle cake at starbucks? i would like to re-create this. any ideas?

Chocolate Cake

175g Flour

3 tsp Backing Powder

1/2 tsp Salt

50g dark Chocolate

110g Butter

175g Sugar

80g made Mashed Potatoes (not joking)

2 beaten eggs

4 tbsp Milk

Filling

110g dark chocolate

125ml Cream

50g Sugar

3 tbsp Irish cream liqueur

Preheat oven to 190 degrees.

Mix the salt, backing powder, and flour. Melt the chocolate. Cream the butter and the sugar. Add the chocolate. Fold the mashed potatoes into the mixture. Add the eggs and the milk slowly while mixing. Finally add in the flour.

Divide the mixture into 2 and bake them separately in a springform pan for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

While the cake is cooling, prepare the filling. Melt the chocolate and slowly add in the other ingredients.Spread 1/2 the mixture of the bottom cake layer. Place the top layer carefully on top. Then spread the rest of the filling over the rest of the cake.

Good luck!

I just ate my first chocolate truffle cake from Starbucks this weekend. It was so divine, I wanted to try to make it. While searching for a recipe online, I found this post's recipe. I would very much like to try and make it; however, I have a question on the mashed potatoes called for. Does anyone know - are these boxed mashed potatoes that have been prepared? Or are they real mashed potatoes? And if the real mashed potatoes, then there are so many possibilities with milk, butter, salt, etc. that could come into play, not to mention how creamy or thick the finished potatoes are. Any of these factors could make a difference.

I did find this exact recipe on chefkoch.de and people there had the same question about the potatoes, but no good answer that I could see. Any ideas? Has anyone made this recipe? I would love any pointers for success.

Hi,

in the recipe's comments it says that you are to use the boxed version, prepare it and use 80 grams of the prepared mashed potatoes in the recipe.

I wouldn't try using anything homemade, just hop into a store and buy some Stocki.

Yes, the recipe is identical to the chefkoch one. I don't know if translating a recipe and not stating where one got it from is allowed here, but I don't wish to get into that debate.

I've made something similar before and no, you wouldn't add cream and butter, etc to the mashed potatoes. You are already adding butter, milk, etc to the actual cake recipe. The potatoes are mainly there for texture and consistency.

For the recipe I made, I made real mashed potatoes and let them cool before adding them to the mixture when the recipe directed to. Not sure how boxed mashed would work, but you could always give it a try.
