Does anyone have experience of claiming RAV between jobs, and where the new job is outside Switzerland
I have been made redundant and my current employment in Switzerland finishes at the end of Jan 2012.
Fortuntately I have found a new job. However, it will only start in the UK on April 2nd. I am therefore planning to move my family from Switzerland to the UK at the end of March in time for the Easter holidays (end of notice period for our apartment in Switzerland).
I therefore believe I will be entitled to claim RAV for the period 1st Feb to 31st March until I deregister from the Gemeiden.
However, I wonder how flexible the local RAV office will be to expect me to continue to search actively for a job which will cover the 2 months as temporary employment, and how this might be affected since it will be obvious that I plan to leave Switzerland.
To my best knowledge, you may ask for your unemployment insurance to be paid . You will be asked to look for a temporary job while you are registered with the RAV. Also, the first few days of unemployment won't be paid (it used to be 10, but now this has changed and I am not sure of the rules)
You may also want to ask if it is possible to have your unemployment money can be paid in the UK. There used to be a program with other EU countries which allowed you to move back temporarily and look for a job in your own country.
Thanks. I'm pretty sure I've read elsewhere that for families only the first 5 days are unpaid. I also have seen other posts that have indicated you must have been receiving the RAV for at least 3 months in Switzerland before you can move the payment to another country.
I guess the only issue will be how realistic it will be for me to be searching for a temp job in Jan 2012 which is going to be for the 2 months gap. There are not many jobs in my line of work that would be posted for such a small period of time.
It will depend on what your talk with the counselor goes and what she decides what is more appropriate... It could well be that considering the circumstances, she won't even ask you to apply or give you the bare minimum number of applications. If you cannot find jobs in your are, just anything that remotely resembles matches your profile will do.
It is between 5 and 20 days, depending on how high your Salaries was. If you have children, it is 5 days, and if you had a very low income, it is 0 days.
And yes, they do expect you to look for work up until ca. 1 month before you can start in the next Job.
The waiting period is based on your previous earnings, its from Zero to 20 days for the highest paid people.
During the notice period and any period of uneployment it is vital to apply for approx 10 jobs a month. If there are not any suitable jobs advertised you should apply for other jobs in another field even if you dont fit the profile of the job you must still apply!
The RAV can fine you if you dont apply for enough jobs, even through you have something lined up from March.
You could even leave CH and have the benefits paid in the UK for upto 3 months, however you would need to register at a job centre in the UK.
You should also start looking for temp work now because unless you are looking for work for 2 months (or as soon as you know) before you become unemployed you are liable to punishment days for which you will not be paid. This is discretionary to a degree. Some people I know were punished and some weren't.
The OP should look for full time / part time & temporary work, if they were to get a full time job thats fine, just give notice if the other job is better.
The OP has a duty to reduce the insurance claim as far as possible, just looking for temporary work is not good enough.
