What is the easiest and fastest way to clean cooked cheese off a fondue dish/bowl after finishing the meal? There must be a better way than hot water and detergent. Wonder what a restauarant uses? Perhaps best not to think!!
Question probably asked before, but cannot find answer from a search.
Elbow Grease
soak in cold water first (forks too) and then remove cheese bits with brush and cold water. Only then use hot water and detergent.
Elbow grease? What is the Swiss French for that at Migros? Do you buy it in tins or an aerosol spray?
Above is really the best advice !
Just soak in cold water over night, maybe add a little bit of washing up liquid ( i find it suppresses the smell a little ) and the next day you can clean the caquelon and forks almost without any effort, using a simple washing up brush to scarpe away the thickest layer and then a soft ,non scratch, washing up sponge for the rest.
DO NOT use scouring pads or harsh detergents, they will cause the enamel/glaze to crack.
Invite cheese lovers over like me who will scrape the bowl clean of cheese... then all is needed is a quick rinse tee hee...
Yes, the best part of the fondue is the crust left behind. Explain to your guests that it's an insult to not scrape the bowl clean even if they're full (they can leave it on their plates but it *must* come out of the bowl). It really is the tastiest bit.
The cocker spaniel already does that job.....
Or do it a la Savoyard by dropping in a egg at the end
Couldn't agree more re the crusty bit at the end - totally delicious!
If only someone could sell a product halfway as tasty as that...
I add salt to the cold water overnight soak instead of washing up liquid. Don't know if it works better, but I was told this is how to do it by Swiss friends ....
