the parents of a friend of mine live in that street. Absoutely no staged. A real disaster…
It’s good for most people, on average they don’t get enough iodine. Especially those on a restrictive diet like vegans.
7 out of 9. Not sooo drastic. Nothing to worry about.
Interesting stats via RTS in French.
Basel had temperatures between 2015 and 2025 similar to Lugano between 1961 and 1990. Quite symbolic because Basel is north of the Alps, while Lugano is south of them.
If someone misses too much the temperatures of Basel from 1961 to 1990, it’s necessary to chase those temps by moving north to Frankfurt.
MeteoSwiss has integrated data from 2024 on their forecasts. The future looks hot.Think about Basel air temp at 39°C plus city heat island effect.
2065 seems far away, but 40 years may be the minimum time to change the laws about air conditioning in Switzerland.
Global temperatures have already risen by about 1.3–1.4°C since pre-industrial times. In Switzerland, that figure has reached 2.9°C, according to 2024 data.
If global heating continues unchecked to 3°C, the researchers say, the country could face warming of 4.9°C – a scenario they warn could unfold as early as 2065 if emissions do not fall sharply.
Among the four main far-reaching consequences, the report foresees a rise in heatwaves and tropical nights, particularly in urban areas such as Lugano, Zurich, Geneva and Basel.
In a 3°C warmer world, the hottest summer day in Basel could hit 38.8°C, up from 34.4°C in the 1991–2020 reference period.
2065, I would be 105 years old and probably well dead by then.
The question I ask is if any of these climate initiatives are going to work, or are they just feel good fluff to sell to the plebs. Frankly I think it is just too late by now…
This is how your government handles a crisis.
Stage 1: Nothing’s going to happen.
Stage 2: Something may be going to happen but we should do nothing about it.
Stage 3: Maybe we should do something about it, but there’s nothing we can do.
Stage 4: Maybe there was something we could’ve done, but it’s too late now.
I think we are at stage four.
2065 is only a date set for comparison. But, changes are gradual, impact is seen today and bigger next year 2026.
One perspective is climate initiatives trying to address the root cause (CO2 emissions).
The other perspective is staying out of danger. That’s the perspective presented by the article I shared. It’s not about reducing emissions but thinking about not being swept by a flood or being trapped by a forest fire as we see today in Portugal, Spain, south of France, Greece…
It’s not about saving the planet but saving yourself. Not many people is aware of the hazards in daily life. Think that living next to the forest is nice? Think again.
Sorry, but that is the dumbest argument for doing nothing.
Climate change seems to be happening faster than most of the predictions. That should be a wake up call.
Instead we have a drill baby drill ignoramus directing policy in the USA.
AI data centres that consume vast amounts of energy? Not so bad if they are about improving medical diagnosis etc etc. Instead, the bulk of it seems to be for consumer analysis, social media interactions and totally speculative improvements in company efficiency. The sooner the AI bubble bursts, the better.
I was listening to a report this morning that said AI might be the driver for clean/renewable energy as its use ramps up, and the main proponents for it would, ironically, be the “tech bros” because there’s not going to be enough energy available to power the data centres.
Necessity will likely drive the progress, in this case, which will spread to other industries.
Talk to trades-people who do renovations of roofs, windows.
They are fully booked, even before the whole Eigenmietwert-Saga.
Why? Due to rain-storms getting more frequent, more violent/windier and with more rain, water seeps into places it didn’t use to sweep (or much, much more often).
As a result, the building-code will likely have to be adjusted and older (or sub optimally designed) houses retrofitted.
It’s been a gradual thing, but it’s just getting to a point where it’s noticeable.
Now they are pumpng CO2 into the ocean bed under the North Sea and giving cattle drugs so that they don’t fart. ![]()
Actually they don’t give cows drugs so they don’t fart. Most of the methane emitted by bovines come from the burps (or belches) because microbes in the rumen (first stomach) break down tough plant material and release methane that is then burped out.
Slight changes in their diets help reduce their burps.
Greenland could be ice free again by 2100

Maybe they’ll finally allow us to install air-conditioning!
Just open your window
And let the heat in?!
Are you not in CH at the moment?
have you heard of irony?
Of course
Looking at climate change scenarios at work. Seawater temperature at 37°C in the summer in a warm region. It’s going to be interesting to cool down a _______ (anonymous industrial facility) with sea water. Heat exchangers will be yuuuuge.
