Coffee in St Gallen??

I've resigned myself to the fact that we won't be bringing our 110 volt Rancillio Sylvia and Rocky over to Switzerland during our move at the end of March . This is a sad, sad thing.

In order to satisfy our 4 latte-a-day habit (two for my wife, two for me) we'll have to find a replacement espresso machine and grinder. We'll also need a new source of freshly (within a week) roasted beans.

On the first count, can anybody recommend where we might be able to find the necessary replacement hardware? A semi-automatic machine along the lines of the Sylvia is preferred. I would even consider a decent second-hand unit.

On the second, is there a place in St Gallen that roasts its own beans? Along these lines, what are the best Kaffee shops in St Gallen (McStarbucks need not apply)?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to our forum!

Sorry I can't help you although I grew up in St. Gallen. However, here's a little piece of advice: In German / Swiss German, don't refer to latte if asking around for your stuff. Most people won't understand why you would need an espresso machine and freshly ground coffee beans fo making latte . After all, latte is the italian word for milk. Caffellatte , caffè latte or (probably the best) caffè e latte are the correct terms.

Have you tried kaffeewelt ? A bit out of town on the west side but worth a look.

Rancilio Silvia Modell 2009!

Rancilio zählt neben Cimbali zu den zwei grössten Herstellern hochwertigster Barmaschinen in der Gastronomie. Pumpe 18 Bar, 1100 W, Wassertank 2,5 L. Gesamtpreis inkl. 8.0% MwSt zzgl. Versand 815.00

As you speak about a very expensive product, you ought to contact a specialist about how to convert your machine to 220V , even if this may cost 100 CHF !

Yes indeed; it's going to be an expensive move. I've already considered changing the guts of our two machines but, even that will result in some very expensive mods. So, I was thinking about a straight replacement. I'm seriously considering a second-hand espresso machine and grinder. Is there anything like Craigs List over there?
