Coffee lovers

Hi,

Do we have any coffee lovers out there, the serious ones who make their own coffee at home? I have a beloved francis francis machine at home which has served us very well and still has a long time to go. It’s a beauty and I personally love the results.

Anyway, destiny has it that I got a very hefty gift today a Rancilio Silvia. I love my francis and don’t intend to switch but they do say the rancilio is the ducati of coffee machines. Anyone has one, what’s your experience with it?

Thanks

We have a Delizio coffe machine, and we love it, it serves us good coffee everyday, the only downfall is, is that it does not serve us beer

I've first got a Tassimo (3 years now).

3 months ago, I bought a Nespresso hmmm...dunno the exact model, but one which most offices seem to have.

I also got a corporate account to order the capsules.

Would love to have a coffee-grinder type machine, but then my teeth will become even more black and I will never get to sleep.

If you want the best machine, I'd keep the Rancilio Silvia. But if you're more into the design, I'd keep the Francis Francis.

Whichever one you don't want, you can send my way!

I was temped by the francis francis, but then i was reminded of the best £70 I ever spent. I bought a John Lewis coffee machine that to this day (my flat mate inherited it)

churns out the best coffee, every time.

I received a modest (the same model) coffee machine from Fust, that does the same thing.

I've seen many a slick-looking expensive coffee machine churn out rubbish. I found the francis too cute to take seriously in the end. (Gaggia etc)

I find it's the coffee I put in it that really makes the difference (Illy)

It's like the Kitchen Aid vs. Kenwood scenario... a Kitchen Aid would look good next to a Francis.

Don't let the looks of francis distract you from the fact that she's still a great coffee machine; the cappuccino I make with that machine competes with the best coffee shops in Milan.

I agree that the coffee you use usually makes all the difference but drinking the best Barolo out of a crystal glass or a plastic cup makes a difference to the experience and I would argue the taste as well. You can’t compare driving a Ferrari to driving a Fiat just because they take you to where you want to go. The journey is part of the experience.

The francis is a very good machine and the steam for making the milk is good. From the looks of it the rancilio will prove to be a better one and will take me to a different level, said that it won’t look as nice beside the Kitchen Aid

If I succeed in letting one go, you'll be the first to know.

we have a Saeco odea go at home. i love it. she is at third place after my kid and my wife

Thanks but you have to hurry! We are leaving at the end of summer!!! Get thee to the post office!!

Although the F-F is too cute for school, they have gotten much better in the latest models & is not at all a bad machine now.

I was also tempted by it's cuteness... but in the end, I just use my stove top moka. I have one that makes cappuccinos too. (Well, until Gianna sends me the leftover machine!)

And, not to start a controversy, but it's better than the damn Nespresso !!

What I really want is this one:

Sorry Gianna, but I have to agree with Gooner on this. We have a Francis&Francis X5 and it is quite a disappointment. It does look good and the coffee it produces after some effort is alright, but that's about it.

What I really dislike about it: the clock is made of cheap plastic, useless as a timer and actually falls out of its socket whenever I touch it; the machine came only with the handle for ESE coffee pods so we had to go through a lot of trouble to get a Francis ground coffee handle which in the end cost almost as much as the machine itself. And it does not work very well! Not to mention that now it leaks water every time it brews and I don't even want to think about the cost of fixing it.

After we finish flogging this dead horse in a year or so we will go and buy a coffee machine that actually works rather than just looks cool (still have no idea what, but in the meantime I end up using my old Bialetti 9 out of 10 times).

This is the second and last time (after a disastrous experience with a Treca bed that does not belong on this thread) we bought something beautiful and expensive rather than functional...

I LOVE my coffee!!

For something a little less common, have a look at the Quick Mill machines.

that is a work of art .....

That's really a shame! I heard they were getting better, but it seems they still have the same problems...

You bought the wrong model...

Oh crap we only have the coffee machine, where can i buy the beer machine please
